The science of a perfect home run

The Blue Jays starter looks to have rediscovered his mojo, working around a two-out walk in the fourth inning.

Considering he struck out Ohtani in his last at-bat, Schneider and pitching coach Pete Walker may not shy away from letting Bieber see him a third time. He’s due up second in the fifth.

But Bieber is uncharacteristically battling his command — one of those issues that could be magnified as long as this is a one-run game.

Enrique Hernández came to bat with a runner on first and two out.

He got to a 2-0 count before hitting a fly ball to the outfield, which Barger caught to end the inning.

The Jays' 2-1 lead is holding, as the game heads into the fifth.

Teoscar Hernández hit a fly ball to centre field to start the bottom of the fourth. That gave the Jays their first out.

Bieber then struck out Muncy for a second out.

With two out, Bieber then walked Edman on five pitches.

Kirk was first up in the top of the fourth. He struck out swinging against Ohtani.

That brought Varsho to the plate with one out. He got to a full count before fouling off another pitch. He struck out on the next one.

Clement then came to bat and struck out as well.

That gave Ohtani three straight strikeouts to end the inning, and four total strikeouts in the game.

Freeman came to bat with two out and no one on.

Bieber got a couple of strikes past him, before Freeman singled on a hit to left field.

Smith was up next, and Bieber threw three balls, but after a called strike, Smith grounded out on the next pitch to end the inning.

The Jays hold a 2-1 lead as the game heads into the fourth inning.

These games in L.A. Have been prime for celebrity spotting.

Ohtani came crashing back down to earth in this third inning.

First, there was the homer to Guerrero. Then, he struck out against Bieber — snapping a streak of 11 straight plate appearances reaching base.

It must be good for the Blue Jays’ conscience to remember that Ohtani is not, in fact, inevitable.

Bieber started the bottom of the third with a 2-1 lead to protect.

He faced Ohtani for a second time in the ballgame and managed to strike out the two-way superstar for his first out of the inning.

Betts was up next for the Dodgers. He hit a liner to Clement at third, giving the Jays their second out.

After Guerrero's homer, Bichette came to bat with no one aboard and one out. But he grounded out to give the Dodgers and Ohtani a second out in the top of the third.

It was Barger's turn at the plate next, but he hit a fly ball to left field, which Enrique Hernández caught for the third out.

The Jays lead 2-1, as they head into the bottom of the third.

The superstar battle was one-sided in the first inning, when Ohtani struck out Guerrero on three pitches.

But the Blue Jays slugger got him back in a big way, announcing his arrival to this series with his first extra-base hit — a line-drive homer to left field in the third.

His seventh homer of this post-season breaks a franchise career record he previously shared with Joe Carter and Jose Bautista.

It’s important now for Bieber to put up a zero in the bottom half.
