< warm> hank aaron richard rodgers harm update: warm>The Pittsburgh Steelers are dealing with a massive injury blow on Sunday, with QB Rodgers struggling with his hand. The 41-year-old suffered an injury ahead of the Week 9 game against the Indianapolis Colts at Acrisure Stadium. The four-time MVP started the game, but it is unclear whether the injury is impacting his performance.
At the time of writing this story, Rodgers completed 24 of his 34 attempts for 199 yards and one touchdown. Cameras from the NFL on CBS captured the Steelers quarterback grimacing and spiking a football in frustration after taking a snap during warmups, roughly 30 minutes before game time.
Rodgers was later seen showing his pinky to teammates while talking on the sideline, prompting speculation about the severity of the injury. “We have a little bit of breaking news,” analyst Matt Ryan said during CBS’s pregame coverage.
“Aaron Rodgers may have hurt his hand during warmups. I don’t want to speculate, but we’ve all had finger issues from snaps.”
Tony Romo, seated beside Ryan, added that Rodgers likely “jammed his finger” while taking a snap from the backup center. “That’s probably what happened there - it looks like he’ll be okay,” Romo said.
Despite the scare, Rodgers suited up and started the game. The 21-year NFL veteran entered Sunday’s matchup completing 68% of his passes for 1,489 yards and 16 touchdowns, tied for third-most in the league.
The Steelers, who were already thin at quarterback, have relied heavily on Rodgers this season after rookie Will Howard was placed on injured reserve with a fractured pinky suffered during a preseason snap. Howard’s injury sidelined him for the entire preseason, leaving Rodgers as the clear leader of Pittsburgh’s offense.
By early in the fourth quarter, the Steelers were in firm control, leading 24-7, as Rodgers continued to play through the apparent hand issue.
