The FIFA World Cup 2026 draw is finally underway in Washington, D.C., with hosts Kevin Hart and Heidi Klum taking to the stage. Before, Andrea Bocelli sang his solo to kickstart the event.

The draw is expected to last for about two hours, but the results will be talked about for the next six months as tournament anticipation grows. Follow this page as we keep you up to date on all the results — and what they mean.

As a reminder, Canadians can also watch the draw on TSN or directly on FIFA's website and YouTube channel.

OK, let's get back to the soccer.

There's a reason for Canadians to feel optimistic about the World Cup. First, as we mentioned below, there's home advantage — which is a big deal.

But Canada also has some world-class players, like Alphonso Davies, who plays for Bayern Munich, and Juventus's Jonathan David. (Davies has been off for nearly nine months with an ACL injury in his right knee, but could start playing again very soon, according to Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany.)

There are many other top players, too. As we get closer to the tournament, Canada's coach Jesse Marsch will have to submit his final roster — and he says he's more spoiled for choice today than ever.

"When I took the job, I said that maybe the number was 12 or 13," he told The Canadian Press, referencing players who were automatic choices. "I think the number now is more like 22."

Lunch is being served to the assembled media, with a different style of meal representing each of the co-hosts: Canada, the U.S., and Mexico.

Just for the record, the "Canadian" lunch features a tourtière slider with ketchup chips, potato and leek soup, and poutine. I'm not joking.

The three leaders will represent their respective countries today as co-hosts of the event.

There is no overstating the importance of this draw, and this tournament itself, which is considered one of the most important sporting events on the planet.

But, at the same time, it will be hard to overlook the political tensions of this moment.

Prime Minister Mark Carney, a noted hockey fan, has also joined the crowd on the red carpet, where he extolled the importance of soccer north of the border.

"This is the No. 1 sport for Canadian youth, Canadian boys and girls," he said. "Two-thirds of Canadians watched the last World Cup … the country is excited."

Asked by a TSN reporter who he hopes won't be in Canada's group, the prime minister said, "We're up for anyone."

"I'll play a small role in determining that," he said. "We’ll see."

Of course, today won't be without a bit of politics, as the three host nations are also engaged in an ongoing trade war.

Today's political host, U.S. President Donald Trump, has arrived at the Kennedy Center for the draw, which will also be attended by Prime Minister Mark Carney and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum.

Canadian officials say Prime Minister Mark Carney’s brief visit to Washington today is all about celebrating soccer. Really, they insist.

Expectations for any sort of breakthrough that could see trade talks with the U.S. Resume are low. At best, it seems there’s hope the prime minister might be able to have a warm moment or two with Trump and nudge things in a more positive direction.

A familiar song became something of an unlikely anthem for Trump during both of his campaigns: the Village People’s Y.M.C.A.

The 1970s anthem played again and again at campaign rallies and Mar-a-Lago fundraisers last year, continuing the theme from his 2020 run. The Village People performed the song, and several others from their catalogue, at a "victory rally" the night before Trump’s inauguration in D.C. This past January.

The band is sent to perform their iconic hit to cap off today’s draw at the Kennedy Center, which is less than two kilometres from the White House.

Today's event isn't all about soccer. There's also a "world-class entertainment lineup," according to FIFA. The event will be co-hosted by supermodel and television personality Heidi Klum, comedian Kevin Hart and actor Danny Ramirez.

Classical singer Andrea Bocelli will perform solo, and American singer Nicole Scherzinger will perform a duet with English pop star Robbie Williams, who is FIFA's music ambassador.

Sports greats from across the spectrum will be assisting in the draw, including Tom Brady, Aaron Judge, Shaquille O'Neal, Eli Manning and Canadian Wayne Gretzky.

It will be led by former England captain and Manchester United player Rio Ferdinand.

In Canada, TSN has exclusive rights to air the draw live. You can also stream the event online on FIFA’s website and YouTube channel.

Former national player on the FIFA draw — and what it's like to play for Canada

Atiba Hutchinson, a FIFA World Cup ambassador and former member of Team Canada talks about what he's seeing with the current team and the upcoming World Cup draw.

"Putting on the jersey, it's a special feeling," Hutchinson said. "It’s a good feeling, and now to be doing it at the World Cup on the world stage, there’s nothing better."

As for Canada's forthcoming roster, Hutchinson said he's excited for Ismaël Koné.

"I think this will be a breakthrough tournament for him," Hutchinson said. "I've got to play alongside him for a little while, and just the quality that he has, the maturity in his game, I really think that he can go out there and make a lot of noise."
