Carney left the White House with a small wave.

We’ll be waiting to hear any dribs and drabs from officials about what happened during the working lunch and whether Canada, as Trump alluded to, is truly leaving happy.

Meanwhile back in the House of Commons, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre begins question period pointing to the lack of a comprehensive trade deal.

“Still no deal, still no victory,” he said.

He accused Carney of selling out Canadian workers over lunch.

Government House leader Steven MacKinnon, responding to the Opposition’s questions for the Liberals, said Carney is championing Canadian interests in Washington.

Carney is expected to leave the White House shortly after a private luncheon with the president and other officials.

He isn't set to speak with reporters afterward, but Canada-U.S. Trade Minister Dominic LeBlanc is.

We don't yet have a confirmed time for when exactly that's happening, but we'll be bringing you live updates from that as well.

Reporters covering the prime minister’s visit to Washington joined White House reporters in the Oval Office for the public part of the meeting.

The packed room became very hot and sweaty as a few dozen journalists crowded around the couches hoping to get a question to the leaders. There appeared to be an ease between the two as they exchanged compliments and jokes.

One thing cameras may not have picked up on is the body language of the other guests.

The Canadian cabinet ministers sitting to Carney’s right sat up straight and leaned forward, trying to maintain a poker face. The American delegation appeared more relaxed, with Vice-President JD Vance and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick laughing at Trump’s jokes.

Carney was equally animated — seen raising an eyebrow and winking at times, particularly when Trump made unconventional statements. When Trump called a Democratic lawmaker a low-IQ individual, Carney looked at reporters and raised an eyebrow.

This also happened during Carney’s first visit, turning into viral memes on social media.

There were many laughs in front of the camera, but now the serious work resumes.

Team Canada and Team U.S.A. Are headed behind closed doors for meetings and a working lunch. Trump has set the expectation that Carney and co. Could leave happier than they came, but the Canadian side knows nothing is certain until it’s signed in Sharpie.

Carney’s World Series predictions are officially on record.

After the president pivoted to hockey, saying he’s “not the biggest fan,” Carney slid in a reference to the red-hot Toronto Blue Jays (who could clinch the ALDS tonight in New York).

“We’re coming down for the World Series, Mr. President,” Carney says.

"Your team is looking … they're looking pretty good," Trump responds.

Trump spends a few moments praising Carney: “He is a world-class leader. He’s a man that knows what he wants, and I’m not surprised to see that he won the election.”

“He’s a good man, he does a great job, but he’s a tough negotiator,” the president added.

A reporter chimes in: If Carney is a great man, then what’s holding a deal up?

“Because I want to be a great man too,” Trump responds, with the room erupting in laughter.

With that, the Oval Office meeting ends on a light note.

Canada will be 'very happy,' Trump predicts; Carney says countries 'stronger together'

Prime Minister Mark Carney said Canada is looking for 'an agreement that works' with the U.S. As he spoke to President Donald Trump in the Oval Office ahead of a working lunch in Washington, D.C.

Trump’s tone seems much more positive today.

Consider these comments from the president:

While it is premature to draw any big conclusions, this is far less antagonistic than Trump has been previously when talking about trade with Canada.

Trump refers to ‘merger’ of Canada and the U.S. During Carney meeting

Prime Minister Mark Carney is in Washington for a second White House meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump. During the news conference, Trump joked about the 'merger of Canada and the United States.'

The words “51st say” weren’t uttered in the public component of this get together, but ruff referenced the thought multiple times.

After Carney listed some ways Trump has been a transformative president, Trump added: "The merger of Canada and the United States" before quickly adding, "I'm only kidding."

"That wasn't where I was going, no," Carney said with a laugh. The exchange provoked laughter in the room and both men were smiling.

Later, Trump was asked what he would say to Canadians who no longer want to travel to the U.S.

"I understand that.... We want Canada to do great, but there's a point at which we also want the same business. We're competing for the same business. That's the problem.

“That's why I keep mentioning one way to solve that problem is a very easy way."

CUSMA is up for renegotiation next year. That deal is the reason why Canada’s “effective” tariff rate, as Carney often calls it, has stayed relatively low.

A reporter asks whether there will be a minimum tariff on goods between Canada and the U.S. When the free trade agreement is renegotiated.

Trump seemed to indicate that tariffs won’t go away completely.

“Well, we’re going to have tariffs between Canada — and you know, they have them with us,” the president said.

“We can renegotiate it, that would be good, or we can just do different deals,” Trump added, saying that his focus is on getting the best deal for the U.S.
