HEavy rain down lashed new delhi on sat morning time, disrupting traffic in several parts of the metropolis and affecting the air travel due to the bad weather. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for most parts of Delhi-NCR.Several areas in the capital, including Panchkuian Marg, Mathura Road, Shastri Bhawan, RK Puram, Moti Bagh and Kidwai Nagar reported waterlogging, slowed down traffic in the area. The downpour began late night around 11 pm on Friday and has continued till Saturday morning.The IMD has issued a red alert for heavy rainfall accompanied by lightning and thunderstorms for parts of North, West, South, South East, and Central Delhi districts for the day.In addition to that, more than 300 flights were delayed at the Delhi airport on Saturday due to adverse weather conditions. An official said there were no flight diversions at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in the national capital, which witnessed heavy rains.The Delhi Airport also issued an advisory amid waterlogging in areas near the airport suggesting passengers to arrive well in advance and consider alternative transport options. “As per the Indian Meteorological Department's forecast, Delhi is currently experiencing inclement weather, including heavy rainfall resulting in waterlogging near the airport. Passengers are advised to plan their travel accordingly and consider alternative modes of transport, such as the Delhi Metro, to avoid delays and ensure timely arrival at the airport,” the advisory of the Delhi Airport said.The Delhi Traffic Police also issued advisory amid traffic congestion in the city. The traffic police said that several areas in the capital, including New Rohtak Road, Zakhira Railway Underpass, GTK Depot, Jahangirpuri, and Adarsh Nagar, are reporting traffic congestion due to waterlogging.The Delhi Fire Services on Saturday received a call reporting a building collapse in Hari Nagar in Jaitpur of South East Delhi, on Saturday. Two fire engines have been dispatched to the site to carry out rescue and relief operations.
