constabulary bring place the bacon update on fateful home invasion, other violent crimes in York
York Regional Police Chief Jim McSween is providing an update at a news conference Wednesday on a number of recent crimes in the region, including the killing of a man during a home invasion over the weekend.
In that incident, 46-year-old Abdul Aleem Farooqi was killed in front of his children just before 1 a.m. Sunday, according to political leaders and close friends. York police said Sunday the killing was targeted, but have provided few details since.
Chief McSween and investigators are also providing updates on another Vaughan homicide from last week, as well as a Markham home invasion and a suspicious fire in Richmond Hill on Labour Day, police said in a news release.
"While York Region continues to remain one of the safest communities in Canada, the region has experienced a surge in violent crime over the past few weeks," police said in the news release.
