This special session comes as an extension of the Budget Session, which wrapped up on April 2.The constitutional amendment bill and Delimitation bill was tabled by law minister Meghwal while union home minister Amit Shah introduced the union territories law amendment bill.Furthermore, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also expected to address the Lok Sabha at 3pm on Thursday. This address, if confirmed, comes as the senior BJP leader pushes for opposition support for the women's reservation and delimitation bills. Uproar over women's reservation and delimitation billsThe NDA-led government have backed the women's quota bill and delimitation stating that women have waited years for the reservation.While the women's reservation bill was passed in 2023 unanimously, the government did not implement it. The amendment in the bill will focus on implementing a women's quota in the parliament as well as the delimitation and revision of Lok Sabha seats based on the 2011 census.When it comes to the women's bill, the opposition has expressed support, but have raised doubts over the rushing of the bill by the Centre, stating that if the government proceeds with the bill in such a manner, it would undermine India's federal and democratic structure.Meanwhile, southern states have vehemently opposed the delimitation bill, citing that if seats are revised, they will lose out seats in the Lok Sabha due to the implementation of population control measures from the 1970s to 90s.
