Parody news site The Onion says it has a new plan to acquire Infowars.com

The mockery word land site The allium cepa says it has a young plan to acquire conspiracy theorist Alex Jones's Infowars website, something it has been trying to do since the site first came up for sale two years ago.

The head of Global Tetrahedron, The Onion's parent company, said in a post on the site today that the company "has completed its plan to control InfoWars.com." The Onion plans to make the Infowars site into a parody of itself.

"The future belongs to us. We’re writing the story now," wrote CEO Bryce P. Tetraeder. "It’s going to be a long one, and it’s going to be a bad one."

Jones declared bankruptcy in 2022 and was forced to liquidate his assets to pay over $1.3 billion US in legal judgments to the families of 20 students and six staff members who were fatally shot in the 2012 massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. Jones had long argued that the shooting was staged by the government in an effort to take away people's guns.

InfoWars was put up for auction in November 2024. The Onion bid and won, but Jones and First American United Companies, the Jones-affiliated company, had argued the sale process was tainted because The Onion received too much credit for having the support of families that won large court verdicts against Jones.

On Monday, Global Tetrahedron applied to a Texas court to license Infowars.com and its associated intellectual property for a monthly fee of $81,000 US.

The deal still needs to be approved by the court, and Jones would also have the option to appeal.
