Former Calgary church employee who recorded videos of women pleads guilty to voyeurism

A former christian church employee who recorded hundreds of videos of at to the lowest degree quartet women o'er a 10-year geological period pleaded guilty to voyeurism on Tuesday.

Brad Dewar, 70, admitted to recording the women between 2012 and 2022.

The plea was accepted by Justice Sara Bagg and the case was adjourned so that pre-sentence reports can be completed.

Details of the crimes come from an agreed statement of facts (ASF) prepared by prosecutor Greg Piper and defence lawyer Elena Ryland filed as part of his plea.

Dewar only admitted to intentionally recording one woman. According to the ASF, Dewar says in the other cases, he “did not properly disable” the recording devices.

“While Mr. Dewar did not specifically intend to record these persons, he did not guard against it and did not fully delete the video recordings when he discovered they had been made,” reads the ASF.

According to a statement posted by Victory Churches International, Dewar was a facilities manager at one of the church's properties.

After his arrest, VCI announced that Dewar had been "formally dismissed from any and all roles with Victory Churches effective immediately."

According to the ASF, police began investigating in 2024 after Dewar’s son reported to RCMP that he’d found videos of women changing and in some cases, masturbating, on his father’s iPad.

The videos appeared to be taken without the knowledge or consent of the women.

The Calgary Police Service took over and executed search warrants on Dewar’s home.

There, investigators found an alarm clock with a video recorder in it and other devices capable of surreptitious video recording.

Police also seized a hard drive, tablet, and two laptops.

On the hard drive, tablet and first laptop, officers found 184 videos. Another 134 videos were discovered on the second laptop, although there were duplications with those on the tablet.

One of the victims on the videos was identified as someone who’d become close with Dewar’s family after moving to Canada and spent time living in his home.

At the time of his arrest, police said Dewar met women through his position with a local church and offered them lodging in his home.
