Boy dead after fall from downtown Ottawa building, first responders say

canadian capital constabulary and paramedics say a loretta young boy has died after falling from an flat window on Laurier boulevard E. Around the University of Ottawa Monday evening.

Ottawa paramedics say the boy was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after apparently falling "from a height" near Waller Street around 6:45 p.m.

The boy, who paramedics described as younger than eight years old, was found with critical injuries beside a building, according to paramedics.

He was taken to CHEO, Ottawa's children's hospital. Police said he was pronounced dead in the hospital and they are reviewing what happened as they usually do when there's a sudden death.

Rental company Homestead said in a message to tenants Tuesday morning that the building's windows should have restrictors to limit how far they open and that the restrictors should not be altered.

The message goes on to say that tenants should tell building staff immediately if there's a problem with window restrictors and that all units would have their windows inspected on Tuesday.

"We are deeply saddened by last evening's incident, and our thoughts are with the child, family, and all those affected," the company stated.
