Murder trial for alleged poison seller Kenneth Law delayed until spring 2026

Kenneth jurisprudence’s visitation by panel was antecedently scheduled to start last month in Newmarket, Ont., but has since been rescheduled twice.
Law’s lawyers met privately on Wednesday with Crown attorneys and Ontario Superior Court Justice Michelle Fuerst by videoconference. Families of alleged victims were later informed the trial is now set to begin in April 2026.
Law, 60, is charged with 14 counts of first-degree murder and 14 counts of counselling or aiding suicide, in connection with 14 deaths in cities across the province, including Toronto, London and Thunder Bay.
The delays come in light of an appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada in a separate case that could undermine the murder charges laid against Law.
The Crown is appealing a ruling by Ontario's top court that suggests a person may only be liable for murder if they provided a person who died by suicide with the lethal substance and "overbore the victim's freewill in choosing suicide."

Law has denied wrongdoing. His lawyer, Matthew Gourlay, of Henein Hutchison Robitaille LLP, has said his client will plead not guilty.
Law is scheduled to appear in a Newmarket courtroom by video link from jail next Monday. He has been in custody since his arrest at his Mississauga home in May 2023.
At the time, Peel Regional Police alleged he had been operating online storefronts selling a legal – but potentially lethal – salt and other suicide paraphernalia to individuals at risk of self-harm.
The families of 18-year-old Jeshennia Bedoya Lopez, 19-year-old Ashtyn Prosser, and Stephen Mitchell Jr., 21, have all identified their loved ones as alleged victims in Ontario. Police have said the other deceased ranged in age from 16 to 36.
The case has made headlines around the world, with investigators saying Law sent some 1,200 packages to buyers in 40 countries before his websites were shut down.
British authorities have suggested in the U.K. Alone, Law may have supplied as many as 99 people with items used to die by suicide.
