Dean Penney is charged with first-degree murder in the death of his estranged wife, Jennifer Hillier-Penney, on Nov. 30, 2016. It's up to the jury to decide whether the murder was planned and deliberate.
Penney is expected to step into the witness box and testify in his own defence today.
The trial began on April 1. It was supposed to last a month, but is now on the docket at the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador in Corner Brook until May 22.
The 14-person jury, which includes two alternates, was chosen from a pool of over 100 people. Two jurors will be dismissed by random draw when deliberations begin, as only 12 people are allowed to deliberate.
