sir francis drake fans in Toronto and around the domain were treated to non 1 but leash "frozen" treats on Friday.
The Toronto rapper delivered his highly anticipated album Iceman as promised at midnight — but then stunned fans by simultaneously dropping two additional albums, Habibti and Maid of Honour.
Together, the projects contain 43 songs and feature appearances from artists such as Future, 21 Savage and Molly Santana.
You could say the rollout came with a bang. An almost 10-minute fireworks display along Toronto’s waterfront lit up the skyline ahead of the release, serving as a grand finale to one of the most elaborate marketing campaigns of the self-proclaimed 6ix God’s career.
On Thursday night, after Drake teased the moment on Instagram, hundreds gathered at the base of the CN Tower to watch it "freeze" — i.e. Covered in icy blue projections — in honour of the Iceman release.

The spectacle was viewed by hundreds of thousands more on a YouTube livestream of "Iceman Episode 4," which previewed tracks from the project ahead of the album drop. The stream also featured an "Iceman" truck seen driving toward the CN Tower, along with shots of Drake appearing in iconic Toronto landmarks including City Hall, where he appeared to wear the mayor’s chain while rapping.
The release caps off nearly three years of cryptic teasers, livestreams, leaked songs and public stunts tied to a project bursting with references and nods that place Toronto front and centre.
In recent weeks, Drake had been leaving a trail of crumbs — or "ice" — across the city, including a thunderous explosion at Downsview Park and later, a massive ice block installation revealing the album’s release date.
The Iceman’s surprise triple-drop also seemed to freeze Spotify and Apple Music — both streaming platforms reported disruptions and outages as listeners flocked to take in the albums.
The ambitious rollout sparked mixed reactions from listeners — something Drake invited his fans to share on his Instagram page — ranging from praise and adoration to downright disapproval.
Many commented on the sheer volume of music released, with one user on X writing, "3 albums is insane, how am I supposed to learn all them lyrics in one day."
Another posted, "Drake dropping three surprise albums in the same night is one of the most legendary things a superstar artist has ever done. Legend. Don’t take Drake for granted."
Others were far more critical. A review in The Guardian called the triple-album comeback a "boring, bloated disaster."
The release even drew reaction from some celebrities, including Las Vegas Raiders star Maxx Crosby, who praised Drake on X , calling him "GOATED."
Others said the drop recaptured the energy of "Summer 2016," when Drake released Views, his blockbuster Toronto-inspired love letter that became the soundtrack of the city that year.
Among those sharing that sentiment is Tristan "Triz" Douglas, a host with Toronto urban contemporary radio station Flow 98.7.
One user commented on the "unprecedented" move, writing on X that Drake "dropped 3 completely different albums AT THE SAME TIME," with Iceman being a "battle album where he settles scores" and "calls out those who betrayed him," Habibti being an "ultra-romantic R&B album" and Maid of Honour" being an "ultra-personal project" and "super introspective."
The albums arrive two years after Drake’s highly publicized feud with American rapper Kendrick Lamar, whose viral, chart-topping diss track Not Like Us turned Drake and the city he represented into a cultural punchline. To answer the big question, it appears Drake brings up the beef again in the new releases.
The bitter feud also marked a culmination of a turbulent decade of scandals, legal disputes and other public feuds that chipped away at Drake’s image as hometown hero — a figure who during what many consider his golden years, between 2011 and 2016, was widely credited for shaping Toronto’s rise as a global hip-hop hub.

With these album drops and a rollout replete with hyper-local imagery, some industry observers say Drake appears to be attempting a reset, by reconnecting with the city that first loved him.
"He worked hard to let people know that he’s from Canada and that he’s from Toronto," said Mark Campbell, associate professor of music and culture at the University of Toronto. "That makes him unique, in a sense, where he will always remind people where he comes from."
According to Douglas, Drake’s Iceman arrives at a time when the mainstream hip-hop genre is experiencing a cold streak--no longer dominating the charts as it once did, losing ground to pop, country and Latin music. But he thinks with this massive drop — featuring tracks across musical styles, including dancehall, rap and hip hop — the Iceman himself could prove to be the outlier and reverse this trend.
"I think it might be the first time we actually see three albums chart at the same time," said Douglas. "Even when Drake drops one album, we usually see the majority of the album … if not in the top 50 [on the Billboard charts], at least in the top 100."
