2 people face charges in death of Halifax newborn, say police

Halifax Regional police force say the personify of an infant antecedently reported missing has been placed, and ii people face charges in connection with the case.

Police said they were notified Friday night of a woman in hospital in life-threatening condition who appeared to have just given birth. The baby was never at the hospital with the woman.

Police and ground search and rescue workers spent the weekend searching the Clayton Park area of the city for the newborn.

In a statement issued Sunday afternoon, police said new information led them to Prospect Road in Goodwood, just outside of Halifax. There, in a wooded area off Old Coach Road around 3:20 p.m. AT Sunday, the baby's body was discovered.

Police say the woman remains in hospital in critical condition. They do not believe her condition is the result of violence.

Four people were taken into custody Saturday, while two people were charged.

Sukhpreet Singh, a 23-year-old relative of the woman, and his wife, 26-year-old Ramandeep Kaur, will appear in Halifax provincial court on Monday.

Police say they will be charged with concealing the body of a child, obstruction and indignity to a dead body.
