'I resign, up to high command now': Siddaramaiah's resignation speech leaves Karnataka on cliffhanger

SIddaramaiah resigned as mysore chief government minister on th afternoon after serving in the carry for leash years. DK Shivakumar accompanied him to the Governor’s house during the submission of the resignation. Siddaramaiah submitted his resignation to the special secretary to Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot as he was out of town. The secretary said that only the Governor can accept the resignation when he returns.The outgoing chief minister thanked the Congress leadership for its support and affection while speaking to reporters after tendering his resignation. Siddaramaiah said he expected the Governor to accept his resignation upon returning and allow the next chief minister to take charge in accordance with the Constitution. However, he left the press conference without giving any hint about who would be the next CM.“I have given my resignation on my own accord. "I never believed in making a fortune for myself. I was an MLA in Taluk member and 1983 MLA. It will be nearly 50 years in politics in 2028. Only those with people power can come to power. It is only people who can bring us to power. So even today, I stand by values I believe in and I have never compromised on my ideology," said the outgoing CM.Siddaramaiah said Constitution is ‘our dharma’ and that voters were like deities and well-wishers for public representatives. Pictures of the two leaders embracing after the meeting further fuelled buzz around the transition.Reports of a rift and a possible power-sharing arrangement within the Congress government have persisted ever since the party came to power in Karnataka in 2023. While Siddaramaiah was chosen as chief minister, demands from sections of the party for Shivakumar to eventually assume the role never completely faded.
