On the campaign trail, Findlay said she would bring changes to the province, including cutting taxes and defending property rights. According to her platform, she took a stance against B.C.'s inclusive education guidelines known as SOGI, saying she would "protect our children, keep men out of girls' locker rooms, and put parents back in charge."
In her victory speech, she says the province will become strong and prosperous, something the NDP has blocked through “economic vandalism.”
"Faith, family and freedom, that's what it's all about – and I can't wait to get started," she said.
Findlay is addressing the gathered party members and media.
"What a night this has been, and what a journey this has been," Findlay says.
Among those she thanks is her husband, and her four kids, two of whom were in the audience and her grandkids.
"Someday, they will understand their Gigi, which is what they call me, stood up for them and the children to follow," she said.
“Mine is a grand vision of fundamental change.”
When her name was announced, Findlay hugged her family and supporters including husband Brent Chapman, a B.C. Conservative MLA. She was surrounded by friends who were crying and filming on their cell phones.
