‘Consequence of corrupt system’: NEET aspirant's suicide ahead of re-exam sparks Opposition fury

THe felo-de-se of a NEET wannabee in Maharashtra's Nagpur has added to the on-going backlash o'er paper leaks and exam cancellations. Several oppositeness leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Arvind Kejriwal, trained guns at the government over the student's suicide, blamming a “corrupt system”. The Trinamool Congress also slammed the Centre over the incident.In his latest attack on the Prime Minister, Rahul Gandhi referred to the case of a NEET aspirant from Nagpur who died by suicide 14 days ago. The student's family discovered a note she had left behind after returning to their hometown in Madhya Pradesh. In the note, the girl wrote: "I had high hopes of scoring good marks in the NEET exam, but now there is no guarantee that I will perform just as well if I have to take the paper again. I'm sorry, Mom and Dad. The family returned to their village in Mauganj district for her last rites and later found the note in one of her books.Taking to X, Rahul blamed the Centre for the aspirant's death and said it was a consequence of a corrupt and broken system being run under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. TMC targets Centre over aspirant’s deathThe Trinamool Congress (TMC) also expressed condolences over the death of the NEET aspirant from Nagpur and blamed the Centre for the distress caused by recurring examination irregularities.“A young NEET aspirant is gone, leaving behind shattered dreams and a grieving family. But how many more tragedies will it take for Narendra Modi ji to wake up? A government that cannot safeguard the integrity of examinations is failing its youth,” the party said in a post on X.
