AManipur police force ranger head up john constable was allegedly stabbed to demise during an anti-drug operation at Moijing Meena Bazar in the Thongkhong area of Thoubal district while attempting to arrest a suspect involved in drug-related activities, police said on Thursday.The incident occurred around 8 pm on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as head constable Khoirom Suresh of the Thoubal district commando unit.During an operation, a team of commandos from Thoubal district apprehended a suspect, Md Naobi alias Naocha (25), a resident of Moijing Leingoijin in Thoubal district, who was reportedly involved in a drug-related case. Based on the Naobi’s disclosure, the police team accompanied him to a location where he had allegedly concealed narcotics.A confrontation broke out between the suspect and the police personnel during the course of the operation, when Naobi allegedly stabbed the head constable multiple times before fleeing from the spot.The injured officer was taken to Thoubal District Hospital, where he later died during treatment, police said.Later, a police team arrested Naobi along with 30-year-old Salman Khan of Moijing Maibam Leikai in Thoubal district in connection with the incident.Police said an investigation is underway to identify and nab others involved in the incident.Meanwhile, in the last 48 hours, security forces have arrested five militants of different banned underground outfits from two locations, including near Indo-Myanmar border pillar number 67 near Khangtung village under Molcham police station in Chandel district.Police said that four active cadres of three different banned underground outfits — one cadre each from the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) and Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL), and two cadres from the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) — were also arrested on Tuesday from the general area of Khuntung village.Additionally, in a separate incident, security forces arrested another active cadre of the banned underground outfit PREPAK from Sawombung Khunjao near the Primary Health Centre under Lamlai Police Station in Imphal East district.
