AMonumental discharge gutted several shops in a three-storey commercial message coordination compound in Hyderabad’s bustling Ameerpet country on Thursday afternoon. Police said there were no casualties or injuries in the incident.Hyderabad police commissioner VC Sajjanar said the fire broke out at KSR Fashions, a garments showroom inside the commercial complex at Srinivasa Nagar West, adjacent to metro pillar number 1043. “Emergency response and rescue operations have been taken up at the site,” Sajjanar said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.According to a senior official from the Hyderabad fire department, the blaze began around 1 pm, sending thick plumes of smoke into the sky and triggering panic among local shop owners and commuters.Firefighters rushed to the scene immediately, launching an extensive operation to prevent the flames from spreading to adjacent commercial establishments.“Within minutes of receiving information, seven fire engines were deployed to control the fire,” the fire official said, adding that the fire was brought under control after an hour of intensive firefighting operations.The incident also triggered heavy traffic bottlenecks on the main road.“The timely evacuation of the building and swift response by emergency services helped avert a major tragedy. There are no injuries or casualties,” the official stated.The authorities are yet to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.A preliminary probe suggests the fire may have broken out in a commercial section of the complex before spreading rapidly due to the presence of highly combustible materials.In his post on X, Sajjanar said vehicular movement on the Ameerpet-SR Nagar route was severely disrupted, leading to heavy gridlocks. “Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and regulating traffic to minimise inconvenience to the public,” the top cop said.
