THe Andhra Pradesh authorities on wed dismissed law inspector Chinna Mallaiah from serve in connectedness with a case registered against him for allegedly raping a 40-year-old woman in Palnadu district in April, people familiar with the matter said on Thursday. Mallaiah is currently absconding and has not been traced so far, police said.Guntur Range deputy inspector general (DIG) of police Sarvashrestha Tripathi issued orders dismissing Mallaiah from service, hours after the Supreme Court dismissed his petition seeking anticipatory bail in the case.The Vinukonda rural police registered a case against Mallaiah under section 64 (punishment for rape) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) on April 29, following a complaint given by the victim. According to the complaint, the victim had been staying alone as a tenant at the inspector’s residence. On the night of April 28, the inspector barged into her house and sexually assaulted her by threatening to kill her.“After gathering primary evidence against the inspector, a case was booked on the same day and he was placed under suspension on May 1,” a senior police officer said.Following her complaint, police moved her to a government hospital, where medical examinations were conducted as part of the investigation. “Based on the medical examination report, it was prima facie confirmed that she was subject to sexual assault and a case was booked against the inspector,” the officer said.Mallaiah had earlier worked in the Crime Investigation Department (CID), and was kept in vacancy reserve (VR), awaiting posting. “Soon after the case was booked, the inspector went absconding. The victim has also recorded her statement before the local court,” the official added.He moved the high court for an anticipatory bail but it was rejected on May 14. Subsequently, he moved the Supreme Court.“On Wednesday, a Supreme Court bench comprising justices Vikram Nath and V S Mohan rejected Mallaiah’s anticipatory bail petition in the rape case. The bench refused to buy the argument of his counsel that he and the victim were involved in a consensual relationship,” the officer said.
