WHile a sudden write of vivid force and rain down caused temperatures in parts of new delhi to sharply drop by nine notches by as much as 19 degrees Celsius, while southwest monsoon entered India via Kerala on Thursday, bringing heavy downpour for the state and its adjoining regions.After monsoon's arrival in India on Thursday, the India Meteorological Department said conditions are likely to become favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon into some more parts of central Arabian Sea, some more parts of Maharashtra, entire Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, some parts of Telangana, some more parts of Andhra Pradesh, entire South Bay of Bengal, some more parts of Westcentral, Eastcentral and some more parts of North Bay of Bengal and entire Northeastern states during remaining days of the week.Top weather updates:-Delhi feels cold: After a scorching day that saw the mercury touch 40.5 degrees Celsius, thunderstorms, rain and strong winds cooled large parts of Delhi on Thursday evening, Thunderstorms and gusty winds touching 91kmph caused temperatures to plunge by nine degrees Celsius to 19 degrees Celsius in parts of Delhi within hours. The IMD upgraded a yellow alert issued for the city in the morning to red alert briefly around as thunderstorm activity intensified across the region.-Delhi weather today: Delhi was under a yellow alert on Friday for strong surface winds, according to the nowcast seen at IMD's website at around 8:30 am. On Thursday, IMD data showed a sharp drop in temperatures in several areas following the thunderstorms. Ayanagar recorded the steepest decline, with temperatures falling 19°C from 41°C to 22.7°C. Dadri recorded a drop of 15.7°C, while Pushp Vihar and Mayur Vihar saw temperatures fall by around 14°C to 15°C. At Safdarjung, the temperature dropped 9°C from 40°C to 31°C, according to an earlier HT report. -Mumbai weather: In Mumbai, the IMD issued a yellow alert for Friday over heavy rain, thunderstorm and lightning as well as strong surface winds. A yellow alert was also in place for adjoining Thane, Palghar, Pune and other districts, while Yavatmal was under an orange warning, according to IMD's website.-Indore weather: While focus mostly remains on weather of some cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai etc,. Madhya Pradesh's Indore is witnessing an unusually cool start to June as pre-monsoon showers and strong winds pushed the minimum temperature down to 18.6 degrees Celsius on Tuesday night, making it the coldest June night recorded in the city in the past six years. The temperature remained just 0.2 degrees above the six-year record of 18.4 degrees Celsius registered on June 4, 2020, according to data cited in a Times of India report. Parts of MP, including Indore, Dewas, Ujjain, Sehore, were under an orange alert on Friday for thunderstorms.-Kerala weather: Most districts of Kerala were under an orange alert while some were under a yellow warning for very heavy rain on Friday as the state welcomed southwest monsoon a day earlier. Southwest monsoon arrived over Kerala on Thursday, three days after its normal onset date and five days after IMD’s forecast date. It is likely to cover most parts of India by the third week of June, although concerns remain about the volume of rainfall.
