Lalit Modi asked why Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, continues to bring up his name in speeches and parliamentary debates.Modi says no court case in 17 yearsLalit Modi claimed that in the last 17 years, no court case has been proven against him. He challenged authorities and said arrest cannot happen directly without a court case, and everything must go through law.The absence of a court case for nearly two decades shows that he is innocent, according to him. He argued that if he had done anything wrong, he would have already been taken to court and punished by now, he said in an interview with ANI news agency.Lalit Modi stated he is not scared of the law, but he is worried about political revenge against him. He claimed that some people with political power and personal anger against him try to create problems for him."They [Ambani and Adani] don't sell newspapers. They don't sell news. I sell news. Okay? Because cricket is so big. Cricket has become so big. Cricket has put me in the limelight, which is unlike Mr Adani and Mr Ambani, who are good friends of mine," Modi told ANI.Modi faced major issues during the 2009 IPL season when the tournament was moved to South Africa. The then home minister P Chidambaram pressured him and did not want the IPL to happen smoothly in India, he added.Government permission issueLalit Modi pointed out the Congress-led UPA government refused to give security for IPL matches due to the 2009 general elections. He claimed that BJP-ruled states supported hosting matches while Congress-ruled states did not allow them. This situation forced him into a difficult administrative problem while managing the tournament.Lalit Modi told ANI, his team had to change the IPL schedule 154 times before finally moving it to South Africa. The final decision to shift IPL came after strong pressure from P Chidambaram, who was very powerful at that time. He ended by repeating his main question again: why is he being always targeted by political leaders like Rahul Gandhi despite no proven case against him.
