NASA instructed crew members alongside the International blank place â(ISS) to bring back to planned trading operations after Russia's space âagency Roscosmos paused Friday's structural ârepair efforts inside the Zvezda service âmodule.
"Given this development, NASA has instructed â the crew members inside the Dragon spacecraft to end âthe safe haven procedures and return to planned operations aboard the International âSpace Station," â the U.S. Agency's spokesperson Bethany Stevens said in â a post on X.
Roscosmos said âits experts had detected two leaks aboard the ISS, but that âthere was no immediate threat to the crew.
"When the transition âchamber compartment of the â Zvezda module was â pressurized ... Âspecialists from the main operational control group for the Russian segment of the ISS detected â a leak from the spacecraft," it said in a statement.
The first leak âwas fixed with a hermetic compound. Preparations are underway to seal the second âleak, located on the conical â part of the transition chamber compartment, â Roscosmos said.
"The situation does not â threaten â the safety âof the crew and onboard systems â the âpressure â on board the ISS is stable and maintained at the calculated level."
Earlier Friday, NASA ordered astronauts aboard the International âSpace Station to shelter âin their spacecraft â and â prepare âfor potential evacuation as repairs were underway.
The four â astronauts of NASA's Crew-12 mission at the station â âtwo U.S. Astronauts, a French astronaut and a Russian cosmonaut â got orders from âmission control at â 9:04 a.m. ET â to enter their Crew Dragon spacecraft â docked â to âthe station and don their spacesuits âin â case the leak warrants an emergency evacuation, a NASA official said.
NASA and Roscosmos, the station's two primary operators, have debated for months âover the cause of and potential fixes for small air â leaks aboard the Russian Zvezda service module, a key â structure of the football field-sized laboratory.
"We continue to work with our Russian counterparts, along with the rest of the international community that supports the space station, to arrive at a more permanent resolution," Stevens said in an earlier post on X.
