Jonathan David gets his second of the game!

Cornelius appeared to be clipped in the box off a corner kick. But the Chilean referee has decided against a penalty kick.

Replays showed the Canadian centre-back kicked his opponent while attempting a shot, so it was the right call by the ref.

Julen Lopetegui is making the first change of the game for Qatar. Left-back Sultan Al-Brake is coming on for striker Yusuf Abdurisag.

It's a purely defensive change to make up for Homam Ahmed's red card. Signals to me that Qatar are focusing more on keeping the scoreline close rather than trying to bag a goal themselves.

Afif comes to the rescue for Qatar after Buchanan was found near the far post! The ball somehow made its way through the six-yard box to the wide midfielder, but Buchanan couldn't adjust his direction and got very little on a sliding shot.

Afif was able to kick it away without much trouble.

I’m at the free fanzone watch party in the Civic Plaza in Surrey, B.C., where there was a massive cheer for goal No. 2.

It’s a small but excited crowd here. No Qatari jerseys in sight, just a sea of red.

Most people I talked to are predicting a high-scoring match and a win for Canada.

Spotted: Carney cheering on Canada while visiting with FIFA president Giovanni Infantino. He's traded his usual fitted suit for a fitted soccer jersey.

The referee has called back a penalty for Canada on VAR's advice — but Qatar's Homam Ahmed has been shown a red card!

He was initially show a yellow for a challenge on Tajon Buchanan, who was through on goal.

Ali Ahmed's free kick from just outside the box goes over the bar.

It’s a dream! B.C. Place erupts again with Canada’s second goal. It comes just after the first hydration break, where a composed and intense Jesse Marsche meted out instructions to players.

Canadian fans are singing along to Bon Jovi’s Livin’ on a Prayer, playing over the sound system, with extra oomph for the "we’re halfway there…" line.

I was *just* writing how both of Canada's forwards are looking up for the challenge today when David rifled that shot into the net. He had already tested Abunada with two vicious shots, the second of which led to Larin's goal.

David is showing a lot more energy here than he did against Bosnia-Herzegovina, when he spurned a couple of good chances to give Canada the lead.

Jonathan David finally scores in the World Cup! Canada doubles its lead!

That volley was hit with all of the anger and frustration Jonathan David likely felt over his goalless drought. That's his first World Cup goal, his first non-penalty goal of the year, and a huge strike!
