Suspect in Pearson Airport gold heist sentenced to prison in U.S. for gun smuggling

The alleged device driver in the apr 2023 Pearson drome au rip-off has been sentenced to more than 13 years in prison in the U.S. For attempted gun smuggling.
Durante King-Mclean, 27, was sentenced on Tuesday to 160 months in prison for conspiring with others to illegally traffic in firearms after reaching a plea deal in the case.
The conviction stemmed from a traffic stop by Pennsylvania State Police on Sept. 2, 2023. King-Mclean tried to flee on foot but was caught after a brief chase, says a release from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania. Police then searched the vehicle and found 65 handguns, each individually hidden in socks.

King-Mclean had been living in the United States illegally since shortly after the gold heist and was travelling from an Airbnb in Florida to Canada when he was stopped, the release says. Peel Regional Police in Ontario have alleged the guns were likely purchased with the proceeds of that spring's gold heist at Toronto's Pearson International Airport.
Peel police and a draft of the Crown's case allege King-Mclean was the man behind the wheel of the white van that pulled away from an Air Canada cargo building on April 17, 2023, with more than $20 million worth of gold, plus large amounts of foreign currency.
It's not clear whether King-Mclean will be extradited to face charges related to the gold heist in Canada.
