Funeral procession underway for Toronto police officer killed during investigation, service to be held

Mourners ar expected to collect today to honour a Toronto john constable who was fatally crack during a law raid earlier this month.
A procession for Const. Marc Pinizzotto began at 10 a.m., and will be followed by a funeral service at the Toronto Congress Centre in Etobicoke at 1 p.m.
Family members, police officers and officials are expected to attend the service, which will be closed to the public but broadcast live online.
Pinizzotto was shot on June 11 while carrying out a search at an apartment building in the city's northwest as part of an investigation into multiple shootings.

The veteran police officer, who was 43, died later in hospital.
The man accused of shooting him, 19-year-old Nicholas Bennett, was shot and injured by police and remains in hospital.
Bennett has been charged with first-degree murder as well as offences related to two other shootings, and is due to appear in court by video next month.
The procession left from the Kane-Jerrett Funeral Home in North York Wednesday morning, and is heading to the Toronto Congress Centre.
People can watch the procession as it passes at Highway 407 overpasses at Bathurst Street, Dufferin Street, Keele Street, Jane Street, Weston Road, Pine Valley Drive and Islington Avenue, police said.

Several roads will be closed until the funeral procession ends around 1 p.m., including the following:
Bus service on the 46 Martin Grove route will be stopped at Dixon Road and Bethridge Road due to the procession, said the TTC on social media.
It also said service on the 45B Kipling route will be detoured to Kipling Avenue, Dixon Road and Attwell Road.
Three Canadian police officers, including Pinizzotto, have been killed on duty in Canada in less than two weeks.
