Canada has really grown into the game after the hydration break. Can they find a winner before halftime?

Canada gets their best opportunity of the game, as the ball is worked from the right side to the left.

Jonathan David found Ali Ahmed for the open shot, but the attempt was denied by Kobel.

Canada got a corner kick out of it, too, but couldn't create something out of it.

Switzerland had an opportunity to score from a free kick after Richie Laryea fouled Breel Embolo. But Granit Xhaka's attempt was nowhere near the Canadian goal.

Speaking of Cyle Larin, the Canadian striker had an opportunity to test Gregor Kobel. He tried to place his shot in the opposite bottom corner, but the attempt was handled by the Swiss goalkeeper with no rebound.

Kobel is yet to keep a clean sheet in this tournament. Canadians will hope it stays that way.

New for this World Cup, yellow cards do not carry over from the group stage. That means any player on a yellow card won't be suspended for the next knockout game if they get cautioned in the Round of 32 or Round of 16.

But, players can be suspended for the Round of 32 if they accumulate two yellow cards across separate matches in the group stage.

This means Canadian defenders Luc de Fougerolles, Alistair Johnston and Derek Cornelius, who each have their first yellow, could be suspended for the first knockout round if they're shown another one today. That would be a significant loss for Canada, given the trio have started every 2026 World Cup game so far.

On the Swiss side, defenders Nico Elvedi and Denis Zakaria are the only ones with a yellow card today. Elvedi is in the starting lineup today, but Zakaria is on the bench.

Yellow cards will also be reset after the quarterfinals.

The Brazilian referee flashes a yellow card to both Cyle Larin and Swiss captain Granit Xhaka.

Xhaka was attempting to kick the ball on the free kick but ended up kicking Larin on the follow-through. The Canadian really shouldn't have been standing there and poking the ball away.

Yellow for both seems fair.

There have been some nervy moments to start the game at B.C. Place. While Canada's game with Qatar saw Les Rouges net two goals in the first 30 minutes to send the crowd into a frenzy, the Swiss, not surprisingly, have proven to be a cagier opponent.

Canada fans have done their best to keep the stadium loud, erupting when Cyle Larin appeared to break free of the Swiss defence before being called offside.

The referee calls for a hydration break, allowing us to do a stats check.

The Swiss have been dominating possession so far, with 71 per cent possession to Canada's 29. They've also had more big chances (2-0) and completed more accurate passes (114 to Canada's 35.)

So far, the co-hosts are letting the Europeans control most of the ball and tempo of the game. Let's see if it continues as play gets set to resume.

A Canadian free kick was delivered into the Swiss box. There were a couple of white shirts that looked free and someone got a touch to redirect the ball towards Gregor Kobel's goal, but the Swiss goalkeeper had no trouble gathering it.

Swiss phenom Johan Manzambi goes down quite easily in the box, prompting Richie Laryea to share a few choice words with him.

Was it a dive? Should it have been yellow? While we contemplated that, Embolo tested Crépeau again. Easy save for the Canadian goalkeeper, though.
