Bafana Bafana makes a change to kick the second half off, bringing Thalente Mbatha on for Relebohile Mofokeng.
The Africans kick things off in the second half.
Agreed, Mouhamad. That was an impressive flurry of attacks from Canada at the end of the first half. Free kicks and corners are causing South Africa problems and could be Canada's best path to a goal.
At the same time, the Canadians really should be at least a goal up — and the pessimist in me has that sinking feeling they could rue some of those missed chances.
However, Canada has defended resolutely, with the returning Bombito being particularly impressive — and he would have had a goal without that goal-line clearance by South Africa.
I don't see any great need for Marsch to change up tactics for the second half yet.
Jan, if the Qatar-Switzerland tie in the group stage taught us anything, it's that you have to take your big chances when you get them — especially in a winner-moves-on game like this one.
According to the stats, Canada had all three big chances in the first half. They also outshot the South Africans seven to three, including four to three on-target shots.
This is despite South Africa making more accurate passes (204 to 150) and having the slight advantage in possession (55 per cent to 45).
Most of Canada's best opportunities came in the final 10 minutes of the half. Hopefully, the Canadians can carry some of that momentum into the second half.
Canada pulled away as the better side after the first hydration break, coming close with some chaotic moments towards the end of the half. But it's still goalless at the break.
Jan, to answer your question, it's a really tough one to call, but I agree with you. Laryea wasn't completely in control and the defender got just enough of a touch on the ball to strengthen his case.
What do you think, Mouhamad? I've seen referees give those in the past. But Laryea wasn't in control of the ball for me and I think it was the right call.
Canadian fans are getting loud in the stadium. Just about everyone in a red jersey is on their feet, many hands clasped behind their heads. They can't believe Canada didn't score during a high-danger sequence in South Africa's crease.
Even fans sporting jerseys from other countries yelled and couldn't believe it.
Meanwhile, there's a large smattering of boos every time the South Africa goaltender touches the ball.
More drama in the South African box as Richie Laryea is brought down by Khuliso Mudau.
The Canadians want a penalty and the referee may have been speaking to his crew, but waved play on after VAR decided it wasn't clear and obvious.
Oh my goodness, chaos in the South African box!
Eustáquio's delivery was met by Bombito, but the ball was cleared off the line. The ball then pinballed to Tajon Buchanan, but he could only blast it off the frame of the goalkeeper Williams.
That's Canada's best spell of the match!
Tani Oluwaseyi gets involved again, first by winning a free kick against Mbekezeli Mbokazi.
He then gets on the end of Eustáquio's delivery, but his header loops over the South African goal.
The hydration break has taken the pace off the match a little, compared with that electric start.
South Africa is doing well at crowding out midfielders Stephen Eustáquio and Nathan Saliba, who aren't able to get a hold of this game in midfield.
Canada's main threats still appear to be down the wings, with Alistair Johnston providing good support for Buchanan down the right.
At the other end, the South Africans are still looking scarily fast when they advance on Canada's box.
