Jan, not to brag, but I predicted before the game that Canada would win this one by a tight 1-0 or 2-1 score.
Now, I'm not good with predictions, but as this second half has dragged on, it really feels like one goal — from either team — will be enough to separate the two sides.
Whether that goal comes in normal time or extra time remains to be seen. What's your sense?
Jonathan David goes high and hard from a tight angle, but Williams makes the save on the Canadian attacker.
That's the South African's fifth save of the game — all coming from shots inside of the box. He's been fantastic in Bafana Bafana's goal.
Alphonso Davies is back! More than a year after getting injured in this very stadium, Captain Canada is back and making his first appearance in the 2026 World Cup.
He's finally been subbed on, coming in for Tajon Buchanan.
Jesse Marsch makes another double substitution for Canada, bringing Promise David and Jacob Shaffelburg on for Tani Oluwaseyi and Liam Millar.
Promise David scored in Canada's 2-1 loss to Switzerland. Can he score again today? One goal may be all it takes this afternoon.
On the note of substitutions though, Alphonso Davies remains on the bench. He's yet to appear at this World Cup.
That great chance for Canada came from one of the first (maybe the first) surging runs through midfield for Canada. Sigur delivered a great ball for Oluwaseyi who just couldn't get the better of the defender and get a good shot away.
Incredible defending from South Africa, but it was last-ditch stuff again. Can they continue the heroics or can Canada force something across the goal line?
Canada is shown their second yellow card just before the second hydration break. The substitute Niko Sigur goes into the books less than 10 minutes after coming on.
Canada comes close again! Tani Oluwaseyi breaks free on the South African goal with his marker barely throwing him off, but Ronwen Williams makes a huge stop.
Danger wasn't done though as the ball popped up behind Williams, but Mbekezeli Mbokazi made a huge defensive clearance to prevent Jonathan David from getting on the end of the rebound.
Another opportunity where Canada can't believe they didn't score!
The Los Angeles Stadium crowd doesn't seem to appreciate South Africa's game plan here, which appears to be to slow the tempo in their own half down, cycling possession and take their time making forward passes.
It's been a subdued start to the second half, with not much in the way of chances.
The Canadians' movement has been good but their passing hasn't been sharp — there have been too many wayward, overhit balls. It's not much of a surprise that Marsch is making changes. Hopefully it'll inject some more energy into the game.
Nathan Saliba and Moïse Bombito's afternoons are done, as they're subbed off for Niko Sigur and Luc de Fougerolles.
The Canadian faithful also let out loud cheers when they spotted Alphonso Davies warming up on the sideline.
Solid shifts by both Saliba and Bombito, if you ask me.
