This is usually the part where I look forward to Canada's next World Cup match, but unfortunately, Les Rouges has no more games to play following their elimination today.

In fact, Canada doesn't have any futures matches scheduled at the moment, so it's unclear when fans will get a chance to see the men in red on the pitch again.

Canada will probably play its next competitive game sometime in late September, when the CONCACAF Nations League kicks off. It doubles as both its own competition and qualification for the 2027 Gold Cup; Canada will be expected to challenge for silverware in both those tournaments.

As for the 2030 World Cup journey, that is still a long way to go. CONCACAF qualifiers for this World Cup didn't even start until 2024, so it'll probably be an equally long time before Les Rouges plays in its first World Cup qualifier.

If you're still feeling the soccer itch, consider turning that into support for your local team, be they in Major League Soccer, the Canadian Premier League or even Premier Soccer Leagues Canada. Lots of Canada's stars came through those ranks, so those leagues are a great place to start if you want to continue supporting Canadian soccer.

For now, salute and stand on guard for the men in red. If you ask me, they gave this great country an incredibly memorable World Cup. How can one not be proud and inspired by how they represented the Great White North on the world's stage?

Canada beats Qatar 6-0 for 1st-ever World Cup win

Guilty as charged, Jan.

That Larin goal is certainly one of the all-time greatest Canadian soccer moments. I was fortunate enough to witness that goal live and Toronto Stadium popped in a way I had never heard it do before. You could tell it had a lot of meaning behind it, as you pointed out!

To avoid doubling up on your pick, though, I'm going to go a bit unorthodox and pick Jonathan David's hat-trick against Qatar.

The Maroons weren't the most terrifying of sides and the three goals probably gets lost in the most-discussed storylines from that game. But I'm going with it because of the historic context around it.

It was only the second hat-trick by a CONCACAF player in a men's World Cup ever, decades after the first one. To me, it was a signal to the world that our players are legit.

I think in the past, some people rolled their eyes when a Canadian soccer player was mentioned because Canada is seen as the land of the hockey rink, not the soccer pitch. But if you compare where Les Rouges' 2026 lineup currently plays to where the 2022 lineup did, there's a significant improvement in the quality of the clubs and leagues they play at now.

Still, some people may have seen our team as the worst of the three co-hosts. So that victory and especially that hat-trick by David showed that our players can mix it on the world stage.

Canadian soccer players are serious soccer players, as the David hat-trick proved.

Canada earns 1st ever World Cup draw on home turf

Very crafty asking me for my favourite moment without naming yours, Mouhamad …

I would say Eustáquio's winner against South Africa comes very, very close — it was a goal fully worthy of winning a World Cup knockout match.

But for me that moment is edged out by Larin's goal against Bosnia-Herzegovina. There was just so much release when that ball went into the net in Toronto. It was like the nation had been holding its breath for the entire match up to then and you could hear the roar of fans explode from coast to coast.

The goal signified so much — a first World Cup goal on home turf, which gave Canada its first World Cup point — and, I think, really set the team on the path to this fantastic run to the Round of 16.

Wait, did Canada just officially become a soccer nation?

Jan, we talked about the feeling of disappointment this loss leaves. But as we both pointed out, there are a lot of things Canada can be proud of from this World Cup journey.

From Toronto hosting the first-ever men's World Cup game on Canadian soil, to those historic wins over Qatar and South Africa, to the way the team rallied behind Ismaël Koné following his devastating tournament-ending injury.

Canada's whole run warrants a Canadian Heritage hour, not just a single minute. So Jan, what's your favourite moment from Les Rouges' 2026 World Cup campaign?

The prime minister has neatly summed up what a lot of us are feeling, writing on X that he has "nothing but pride" for the men's national team today.

"An incredible run and a sign of what’s to come," Mark Carney added.

"Thank you to our team, the fans, and everyone who made this [men's] World Cup showing our best yet."

Shortly after the match ended, the men's national team published a letter thanking fans who supported the team during their historic run, whether they travelled, bought tickets, or threw watch parties in their own homes.

"Right now, the hurt is real. We came here believing we could keep writing history, and when you believe that deeply, the final whistle is not easy to accept," the message said.

"Over the last few weeks, we watched an entire country fall in love with this team. Streets filled with red. Living rooms became supporters sections," it continued.

"We've always believed this was a football country. Now, we know it is."

Thank you, Canada ❤️<a href="https://x.com/hashtag/CANMNT?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#CANMNT</a> <a href="https://t.co/E6D1bp6DkE">pic.twitter.com/E6D1bp6DkE</a>

Toward the end of the match broadcast, the camera cut to a dejected-looking Alphonso Davies fidgeting with a piece of paper on the sidelines.

In the TSN studio, they're now reporting that Davies had an MRI scan yesterday that came up clear, but he woke up this morning "not feeling right."

Marsch confirmed in his post-match news conference that Davies wasn't fully fit, saying, "it killed him more than anyone" that he couldn't play today.

It's clear Canada's captain still has some rehabilitation to work through. Giving him minutes against South Africa may have even been a gamble.

It's a genuine shame he couldn't have had more impact in this tournament.

Jan, if you had asked me before the tournament if I'd take a Round of 16 loss to Morocco, I probably would've welcomed it. Now though, ugh, it's so disappointing.

But, this feeling — losing to a top 10 nation in a World Cup Round of 16, leaving us with a sense of disappointment and questions of what could have been — is a sign of how far Canada Soccer has come on the men's side. Four years ago, we were happy just to play in a men's World Cup again.

I think back to a chat I had with a fan in the build-up to Canada vs. Bosnia-Herzegovina all those weeks ago. He told me he remembers how disappointed he was when Honduras beat Canada 8-1 in a World Cup qualifying match in 2012, but Les Rouges missing out on a World Cup was not out of the ordinary then.

Now, 14 years later, that type of result — which defined the experience of so many Canadian soccer fans for years — is a relic of the past. Our national team doesn't lose by seven goals in qualifying anymore. They take it to some of the best soccer nations in the world.

That's something to be really proud of.

The Canadian players look crestfallen. They gave everything today. They walk over to where the majority of their fans are seated, applauding the faithful. They're joined by Ismaël Koné, still on crutches.

What a World Cup ride it's been since that raucous opening match in Toronto, Mouhamad. Who would have thought we'd be left slightly disappointed that we hadn't taken out Morocco in the Round of 16?

There will be disappointment today, but Canadians can look back on this tournament with nothing but pride.

Talking to TSN, Marsch is adamant that Canada was the better team today, while ruing Morocco's quality in the final third.

"In terms of how we play, the match plan we played ... What an incredible performance," Canada's coach said.

"What a privilege our fans have had rooting for a team that doesn't play defensively," he added.

"I'd rather be us than them [Morocco]. I couldn't be prouder."

You're right, Jan. The scoreline doesn't do justice to how well Canada were able to take the game to Morocco and limit their high-quality chances, especially in the first half.

Even after going down by a goal, it still felt like Canada was causing Morocco problems.

I think what took the game out of Canada's favour was bringing on attacker Promise David for winger Ali Ahmed. Switching to three attackers left a lot of open spaces for Morocco's swift and speedy offensive players to exploit, especially in the midfield. Canada paid for that through the odd-man rushes that resulted in their second and third goals.

But it's easy to be critical with hindsight. For a while, it felt like Canada had a shot at beating the Moroccans.
