Carney addressed his Turkish counterpart's unique gift while speaking to the media following a meeting with Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Jeddah. The visit is the second leg of the prime minister's overseas trip that kicked off with the two-day NATO summit held in Ankara, Turkey.

The summit included discussions around the rearmament and mutual defence of NATO countries, who all recently met the alliance's previous defence spending benchmark of two per cent of gross domestic product. The next target is five per cent of GDP spent on defence and related infrastructure by 2035.
The revolver in question is a .357 magnum Turkish copy of a Colt Python revolver with a six-inch barrel made by Turkish arms manufacturer Sarsilmaz.
Pistol gifted by Turkish president 'not what I expected,' says Carney
In a social media post on Thursday, Hungarian President Péter Magyar shared a photo which shows the leader's name engraved on the barrel.
Carney said he learned Canadian officials were in possession of the pistol after hearing U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer talk about the gift.
"It was not what I expected," Carney said.
According to Global Affairs Canada, "all official gifts are handled in accordance with applicable Canadian laws, security requirements and government policies."
Carney said the RCMP have decommissioned the revolver, meaning it is no longer able to fire live ammunition.
"The next thing that went through my mind is this is something for the war museum or a CAF museum or something like that," Carney said. "It's interesting and it relates to NATO and the bigger picture," Carney said.
"We're going to find the best home for it."
