Track July 16 updates on CJP protest hereWhat govt told court over WangchukThe directions came after Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Centre, assured the court that Wangchuk's health would be monitored daily by government doctors, medical experts and any medical intervention considered necessary, based on their assessment of his deteriorating condition, would be undertaken promptly.Wangchuk has been on a hunger strike at the ‘Cockroach Janta Party’ (CJP) protest at Delhi's Jantar Mantar for nearly 20 days.Sonam Wangchuk has been on a hunger strike as part of the protest by ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ (CJP) demanding union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation over alleged irregularities in examinations in the country, at Delhi's Jantar Mantar.Sonam Wangchuk joined the protest protest began on June 28, eight days after CJP announced they would continue to sit in at Jantar Mantar till Dharmendra Pradhan steps down.CJP, which was launched by Boston University graduate Abhijeet Dipke on May 16 as a satirical reactionary outfit in response to a remark by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, went on to become a massive youth movement on social media and offline with its demand of education minister's resignation owing to the repeated irregularities found in major national examinations.Several opposition leaders and over 1,800 members of civil society, academics, artists and activists, including Naseeruddin Shah, Ratna Pathak Shah, Arundhati Roy, Nivedita Menon, Jean Drèze, Lalita Ramdas and Kavita Srivastava, in a letter issued on Tuesday, urged Wangchuk to end his hunger strike. On Wednesday, the People’s Union of Civil Liberties (PUCL) also appealed to Wangchuk to call off the protest, while expressing solidarity with the CJP and the ongoing protest.
