Throwback: How the ’93 Jays got ready for World Series Game 1

Bo Bichette just saved a run with a fantastic play to take away a hit, but walked back to his position gingerly. Worth watching going forward.

Yesavage is not very sharp tonight. His velocity is down and he’s struggling to throw strikes — nearly half of his pitches have missed. Not the swing and miss stuff we’ve previously seen from him. The phone has rung in the bullpen.

With two Dodgers on base at first and second, Smith, the L.A. Catcher came up to bat in the top of the third.

Smith worked Yesavage to a full count of 3-2, before getting a single that brought home Betts. But Freeman was caught on the basepaths between second and third.

That gave the Dodgers a 2-0 lead, with one out.

After a dominant first inning, the rookie is struggling to find the strike zone. He’s walked three, and only about half of his pitches have gone for strikes.

Hitters typically see a big improvement the third time they face a pitcher — and the Dodgers are somewhat close to having lead-off hitter Ohtani back up to the plate.

There’s action in Toronto’s bullpen.

Yesavage started out the top of the third by walking the Dodgers' Betts, and then promptly walked Freeman. That puts two men on, with none out.

In the first inning, the Blue Jays left the bases loaded.

In the second, a Clement lead-off single could have set the table to even the score with the Dodgers already up 1-0.

But Gimenez and Straw struck out. Then, just when it looked like Springer would beat out an infield hit, Clement got greedy trying to move to third and was thrown out.

Had Clement simply stayed at second, Toronto would’ve had runners on first and second with the heart of its order due up and the chance to force Snell to throw even more pitches.

Instead, his base-running blunder doused a potential rally before it even began.

Clement was the first batter up for the Blue Jays in the bottom of the second. He fell behind 0-2, before hitting a line drive to left field for a single to start things off.

Myles Straw came to the plate, but struck out, leaving Clement on first with one out.

Snell then struck out Andrés Giménez to make it two out.

George Springer then reached first on a hit the Dodgers couldn’t make a play on. However, the Jays rally came to a crashing halt as the Dodgers quickly got Clement out at third as he tried to advance on the same play. That ended the inning.

The Blue Jays walked the tightrope early, facing Ohtani with the bases loaded.

But the rookie Yesavage induced a groundout to get out of the second inning having allowed just one run. He also struck out Andy Pages in a key moment just before Ohtani.

Some might have questioned the decision to let the 22-year-old start Game 1 of the World Series.

It looked brilliant in the first inning. In the second, it looked like a rookie battling nerves — and consistent location with his stuff.

Blue Jays fans pack Rogers Centre for World Series opener

The seats of Rogers Centre in Toronto were filled with cheering Blue Jays fans who chanted, clapped and made their support for the home team loud and clear. The Toronto Blue Jays are hosting the Los Angeles Dodgers for the first game of Major League Baseball's World Series.

The crowd together hither at the william penn adair rogers Centre came come out raging but the Dodger uprising in the second quieted the Blue Jay faithful. Yesavage brought them back to life by inducing Ohtani to ground out to escape a bases loaded jam. Could have been a lot worse. Pivotal moment early on.

Dodgers infielder Tommy Edman hit a ground ball that Blue Jays third baseman Ernie Clement couldn't get to in time to make a play.

That loaded the bases with Edman on first, Enrique Hernández on second and Muncy on third.

Next up for the Dodgers was outfielder Andy Pages, who struck out.

But the bases remained loaded with two out for Yesavage, as Ohtani returned to the plate.

He ground out to first, to end the inning, and the threat from the Dodgers.

The score remained 1-0 after the top of the second.
