The science of a perfect home run

Betts came to the plate, with Ohtani on second and just one out.

Fluharty managed to coax a fly ball from Betts, caught by Lukes to give the Jays a crucial second out.

That made it Freeman's chance to do something for L.A., and he delivered, hitting a single to bring home Ohtani and tie the score at 4-4.

No Scherzer, no problem — Ohtani just keeps raking.

The Blue Jays’ decision to pull Scherzer ahead of a third at-bat against Ohtani was likely the right one on paper. But the Japanese two-way player wasn’t bothered by a lefty-lefty matchup against Mason Fluharty, ripping his second double of the game and coming around to score the tying run.

Fluharty came into the bottom of the fifth with Ohtani at bat, a runner at first and just one out.

Ohtani hit a double, which brought home Enrique Hernández, giving the Dodgers their third run in the game.

That put the score at 4-3 for Toronto, but with Ohtani on second, and still just the single out in the inning.

The man known as Mad Max can certainly be fiery.

But he appeared to understand being pulled in the fifth inning by Schneider, with the left-handed Ohtani, who had already doubled and homered, due up and a man on base.

Back to the game. Enrique Hernández got a leadoff single for the Dodgers in the bottom of the fifth.

The Dodgers' number-nine hitter, Pages, then hit a fly ball to the Blue Jays' Barger in right field, to give Toronto its first out.

The Jays then made a pitching change, pulling Scherzer from the game, and bringing in reliever Mason Fluharty.

In other entertainment news, JP Saxe is getting some criticism on social media for his rendition of O Canada before the game.

Some on X weren’t happy about his decision to change “our home and native land” to “our home on native land,” following in the footsteps of Canadian R&B singer Jully Black who did the same ahead of the 2023 NBA All-Star game.

Others just didn’t like his performance — and weren’t shy about sharing that opinion online.

Among the celebs at Dodgers Stadium tonight: Canadian singer Justin Bieber, supporting the Blue Jays in a Shane Bieber jersey, naturally. He's there with his wife, Hailey Bieber.

Glasnow is out, and left-handed reliever Anthony Banda is in.

With Barger’s spot coming up soon, that could set up a rematch from Game 1, when the Jays outfielder crushed the first pinch-hit grand slam in World Series history off Banda.

Here’s guessing the Jays wouldn’t mind that outcome.

Lukes started off the top of the fifth by drawing a walk from Glasnow after a long, eight-pitch at-bat.

That put a runner at first, as Guerrero came to bat. He hit a fly ball, but it wasn’t deep enough to advance Lukes.

Up next was Bichette, who battled Glasnow through a 2-2 count and several foul balls, before he struck out.

The Dodgers’ starter was then pulled from the game, unable to make it out of the fifth.

L.A. Reliever Anthony Banda has come in to take over for Glasnow.

We all saw how little Scherzer likes being taken out of post-season games when he barked at Blue Jays manager John Schneider during a mound visit in Game 4 of the ALCS.

But Dodgers hitters made the 41-year-old work hard through three innings. They hit him hard, too, with two homers and a double.

Then again, Scherzer’s stuff looks sharp, his velocity remains solid, and he cruised through the fourth.

He’s now at 72 pitches after throwing 87 against the Mariners.

Whenever the hook comes, you know Scherzer will make Schneider feel his wrath.
