The science of a perfect home run

Call it good defence, poor base-running or both.

That might have been a good spot for Schneider to be aggressive, trying to take the lead in the 10th. But it also left Guerrero Jr. Waiting in the on-deck circle.

Emmet Sheehan was sent in to pitch the 10th inning for the Dodgers.

He got a quick pop out from Clement, before facing Giménez, who struck out.

That brought France up for the second time in two innings. He got aboard with a single to left field.

Toronto then brought Davis Schneider in to run for France, at first base.

Lukes sent a hard-hit ball to the outfield, which was scored as a double.

Unfortunately, for Toronto, the Dodgers managed to throw Schneider out at home plate.

There is no runner on second base to start the inning like you would see during the regular season.

Betts came to bat in the bottom of the ninth, with two outs and no one on base for the Dodgers.

Hoffman got him out on a fly ball.

That sent the 5-5 game into extra innings.

After a base-running mistake of the Blue Jays’ own in the top of the ninth, Ohtani made a similar blunder.

This game seems to have a little bit of everything.

It was Jeff Hoffman's turn to keep the Dodgers down, when he entered the game to pitch the ninth for Toronto.

He first faced Pages, who has managed only four hits this post-season. Pages worked Hoffman for 10 pitches, finally popping out and giving Hoffman his first out in the ninth.

Toronto then opted to intentionally walk Ohtani, who was 4 for 4 in this game with two solo home runs.

Ohtani then got thrown out by Kirk while trying to steal second.

That gave the Jays two out, with no one on base. Betts then came to bat.

The intentional walk in the bottom of the ninth was the only play. Even in a tie game.

In the eighth inning, Schneider lifted Barger for Straw on the base paths.

In the ninth, that turn in the batting order came up with men on first and second, two outs and the righty Sasaki on the mound.

It would have been an ideal situation for the left-handed Barger, who already hit one massive home run in this World Series.

Instead, he wasn’t even an option.

Varsho ripped a line drive into right field but things didn't go the way the Jays wanted: The Dodgers managed to throw out Kiner-Falefa at third, leaving Toronto with Varsho at first, and two outs in the inning.

The drama continued when Kirk came to bat, as Sasaki walked him — putting two runners aboard with two out in the top of the ninth.

It then became Straw's job to try to make something happen, but he grounded into a force out, sending the Jays into the bottom of the ninth in a tie game.

With just one out, Kiner-Falefa’s decision to dig for third base in the ninth inning could be seen as aggressive but reasonable.

But the infielder misread the ball off Varsho’s bat, thinking it would get deeper into right field. Instead, Freeman got a piece of it at first base.

And after a strong throw by Edman, Kiner-Falefa was a sitting duck.

Third base would have been nice, especially with just one out, but in this case, it was a bit too greedy. And it could cost the Jays this game.
