The science of a perfect home run

The Blue Jays centre fielder has two things going for him: defence and power.

He flashed the latter in the 15th inning, running down a Freeman fly ball in the gap to force extra innings to continue.

Freeman was up with two out and Ohtani on first in the bottom of the 15th inning of Game 3.

After a 1-1 count, Freeman hit a fast-moving liner that Varsho sprinted to catch to send the Dodgers and Blue Jays to a 16th inning, to try to break the 5-5 tie.

That fourth intentional walk of the game? That’s never happened before in the World Series.

But, again, Ohtani is a different beast altogether.

Lauer faced Alex Call as the bottom of the 15th got underway.

Call hit a grounder to Kiner-Falefa, who made the throw to first base to complete the out.

Ohtani then cycled back to the plate and the Jays issued him an intentional walk for the fourth time in Game 3.

Betts was up next. He hit a fly ball, which Lukes caught in right field. That gave Toronto a second out.

Kiner-Falefa struck out to end the top of the 15th.

He came to bat with Guerrero on first base, and two out.

Game 3 of the World Series remains tied at 5-5, as it heads into the bottom of the 15th inning.

Will Klein became the 10th Dodger to pitch against the Blue Jays in the 15th inning of Game 3 of the World Series.

He struck out Schneider, the first Blue Jay he saw, to start the inning.

Klein was the last man available out of the bullpen for Los Angeles. Manager Dave Roberts will have to turn to a starter if he needs another pitcher.

Meanwhile, Brendon Little is the last relief arm in the Blue Jays’ bullpen. His last appearance ended in disaster — a homer and two walks, leading to another reliever allowing a grand slam — but he’s all Toronto’s got, now.

Why not, right? We’re now just three innings away from matching the World Series record.

Already, this game has its spot as the second-longest ever.

Edman came to bat in the bottom of the 14th with runners on first and second, and just one out.

He popped up to Kiner-Falefa, giving the Jays another chance to slide through to another inning, if they could record one more out.

Rojas came to bat and grounded out, sending the now more than five-hour-long game into a 15th inning.

It was Lauer facing Smith when the bottom of the 14th inning began.

Smith had a long at bat against Lauer, eventually hitting a very long fly ball that Varsho caught in centre field for Toronto's first out.

Muncy, the next batter, had a prolongued at-bat of his own, which also included a very long fly ball — but that one went foul. He drew an eventual walk from Lauer.

That put a runner on first with one out.

Henriquez faced Straw at the start of the 14th inning.

Straw hit a long fly ball that went to the warning track in centre field, where it was caught for the first out for the Dodgers.

Clement, who was batting for the seventh time in Game 3, fouled off multiple pitches from Henriquez, but ended up grounding out to Muncy at third. The throw to first was close, but Clement was out.

Giménez, in his own battle at the plate against Henriquez, hit a foul ball off his leg that looked like a painful moment during his at-bat. He eventually struck out.
