CYclone Montha unrecorded Updates: The republic of india Meteorological section (IMD) proclaimed on tues evening that the landfall process of Cyclone Montha has begun and is expected to continue for 3 to 4 hours.Cyclone Montha intensified into a Severe Cyclonic Storm on Tuesday morning as it moved towards the Andhra Pradesh coast, bringing heavy rain to parts of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Tamil Nadu.According to the weather agency, the storm is likely to cross the coast between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam, near Kakinada.In anticipation of the landfall, 25 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been deployed across Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh and Puducherry.The weather disruption has already led to cancellations of train services. At least 35 flights between Shamshabad in Telangana and Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, and Rajahmundry airports in Andhra Pradesh have also been cancelled. Operations at Vishakhapatnam airport have also been shut.The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued heavy rain alerts in these states along the Indian east and southeast coast due to the deep depression over the Bay of Bengal that intensified into a cyclonic storm on Sunday.Cyclone Montha: Here are the key developmentsThe deep depression over the Bay of Bengal that turned into a cyclonic storm - Cyclone Montha - intensified into a 'severe' cyclonic storm on Tuesday morning and is expected to make landfall at the coastal shores of Andhra Pradesh by tonight.The cyclone is about 120 km east of Machilipatnam (Andhra Pradesh), 130 km south of Kakinada (Andhra Pradesh), and 230km south-southwest of Visakhapatnam.Montha is likely to continue to move north-northwestwards and cross the Andhra Pradesh coast between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam around Kakinada during the evening/night of today, the 28th October, as a severe cyclonic storm with a maximum sustained wind speed of 90-100 kmph gusting to 110 kmph.Andhra Pradesh's Gannavaram airport has cancelled at least 30 flights for Tuesday, while 32 trains in Odisha have been cancelled due to inclement weather.National Disaster Response Force said it is closely working with the district administrations and is monitoring the situation in collaboration with the Met Department for preparedness. Twenty-two NDRF teams are on standby as the cyclone inches closer to the Andhra coast.
