What a boost Bichette has been to the Blue Jays in this World Series — even while he can’t properly run or play shortstop.
He’s now hitting .333 since returning, contributing just as he had all season long with the bat.
Bichette came to the plate with Guerrero at first, Giménez at second, and two out.
He ripped a single to right field, which brought home Giménez and moved Guerrero to third on the play.
Once again, Barger is showing he’s more than just a power threat.
He made that brilliant diving grab in the sixth. Then, in the seventh, two smart reads on pitches in the dirt allowed him to move to third.
A passed ball on a walk to Guerrero allowed Barger to scamper home for an all-important insurance run.
The Dodgers brought in Edgardo Henriquez to try to slam the door on the seventh without any Blue Jays runs.
He entered the game to face Guerrero, with two out and the Jays' Giménez at first base, and Barger at third base.
Henriquez fell behind Guerrero 3-1, before the Jays' slugger fouled off a fifth pitch to reach a full count of 3-2.
His sixth pitch to Guerrero was a passed ball that got away from the catcher. Guerrero went to first on a walk — but the passed ball allowed Barger to run home.
That put the score at 4-1 for Toronto in the bottom of the seventh.
Schneider came to bat with Barger at second, Giménez at first, and only one out.
Snell threw two strikes to Schneider, then a ball, then another wild pitch, which allowed Barger to advance to third.
Schneider got to a 3-2 count with Snell, but struck out on the sixth pitch.
The Dodgers then pulled Snell with two out.
With Snell well over 100 pitches, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts had the choice to leave him in to face lead-off man Davis Schneider, who homered off him in the first, or go to a righty reliever in Edgardo Henriquez.
Meanwhile, if the reliever had come in, Jays manager John Schneider likely would’ve had Nathan Lukes pinch-hit.
Roberts preferred the Snell-Schneider matchup — and his gamble paid off with a strikeout.
Giménez came to bat with one out, and Barger at second. Snell, whose pitch count has climbed above the 100-mark, battled Giménez.
Smith tried to throw out Barger, still at second, in the middle of Giménez's at-bat. But the pickoff attempt failed and Giménez drew a walk on the sixth pitch he saw from Snell.
That put runners on first and second for the Blue Jays, with one out, as Schneider came to the plate.
The Dodgers sent Snell back out to face Barger in the top of the seventh.
Barger, who already had a single and a walk in Game 5, hit a ground ball to left for a single.
That brought Kiner-Falefa to the plate. He immediately squared up to bunt, but the first pitch was a ball and Kiner-Falefa fouled the next one trying to bunt again.
Snell eventually put a ball in the dirt, which got Barger to second with Kiner-Falefa still at the plate.
Kiner-Falefa hit a ball to the left side of the infield and was out at first. Barger remains at second with one out.
At 89 pitches through six innings, his time could be up soon.
Yesavage’s season-high MLB pitch count is 94, which he did in September during the regular season.
If he was showing any signs of scuffling, that sixth inning probably would have been his last.
But Yesavage looks so effective and so in control that manager John Schneider will likely let him go at least one more inning.
After that? The Blue Jays could turn things over to closer Jeff Hoffman for two innings — an especially appealing possibility with an off-day tomorrow.
In the bottom of the sixth, Ohtani ripped a line drive to right field, which was caught by a diving Barger to save Yesavage from early trouble.
That smooth play gave the Jays their first out of the inning.
Next up was Smith. He struck out — the 11th Dodgers batter that Yesavage has fanned tonight.
Betts hit a bouncing grounder to third, which Clement fielded and threw to first, to get the Jays their third out.
