Jays cut into Dodgers' lead, trail 3-1 in World Series Game 6

Jays focused on meeting the moment against Yamamoto’s pitching in Game 6, Bichette says

A pair of Blue Jays icons — José Bautista and Devon White — were just shown on the jumbotron and received loud applause.

Bautista, he of the iconic 2015 bat flip, formed a heart shape with his fingers in response to the crowd.

Earlier, White threw out the ceremonial first pitch.

Two double plays is bad for obvious reasons — but it also greatly aids Yamamoto’s pitch count. And if there’s one key to this game for the Jays, it’s getting into that struggling Dodgers bullpen.

Yamamoto faced only three batters. A double play scuttled a possible rally, ending the inning.

The auxiliary press box is in section 540, near the left-field foul pole and directly next to a section of fans.

Every one of those fans is also, apparently, an umpire. Even from up here, every strike against the Blue Jays clearly should have been called a ball, and every ball against the Dodgers a strike.

Three up, three down after allowing three runs in his previous inning was certainly welcome.

Even more important? Gausman, whose stuff is electric tonight, threw just 10 pitches.

He’s also already at eight strikeouts — just four shy of Trey Yesavage’s total two days ago.

Gausman gets three straight outs, without any drama.

It’s another big crowd — perhaps the largest yet — at Nathan Phillips Square at Toronto City Hall, which has played host to arguably the largest outdoor watch party for this World Series.

Despite the cold and biting wind chill, hundreds are out here, layered up, to watch the Jays on giant screens.

Mayor Olivia Chow is here, getting a bit of a mixed reception as she makes appearances between innings to try to rev up the crowd with chants of “Let’s go, Blue Jays.”

Mahesh Samtani said he had watched some of the previous games with his buddies in bars. But for this particular game, he said he had to be here.

“Where better to be than with the people? At the end of the day I can be at a bar, but I’d rather be out here with the real fans.”

“I wanted to experience something I haven’t been able to.”

Andreas Lemontzis lives in Montreal but grew up in Toronto and has remained a Jays fan.

“I drove up to make sure I’d be here for this party,” he said.

“I had to be here in person. I had to celebrate with my true fans.”

The Jays reduce the deficit to 3-1 after Springer's RBI single. Lukes hit a fly ball to left field to end the inning.

Fighting through pain, 2017 World Series MVP George Springer just came up clutch yet again.

Of course, it was his ALCS home run that got the Blue Jays here in the first place.

Now he has them on the board in Game 6 — and Yamamoto’s air of invincibility has been punctured.

Barger hit a leadoff double, and he moved up to third on a groundout. Springer hit a two-out single to bring Barger home to give the Jays their first run.
