Mad Max quickly sat down Enrique Hernández and Rojas to start the third inning before Ohtani launched one to deep left field that Nathan Lukes managed to run down.

Scherzer looked absolutely pumped with the defensive effort behind him.

If the Blue Jays lose this World Series, they will rue their past four innings.

Dating back to the eighth inning in Game 6, they’ve left six men on base — and had another two thrown out on the basepaths.

They’ll need to start capitalizing on those opportunities as soon as possible, or this World Series could slip away.

The star infielder returned from a seven-week layoff due to a knee injury for this World Series, but is clearly not 100 per cent.

Normally, he would have scored on that Clement single. Instead, he gets the stop sign — and he’s left on third base.

Bo Bichette leads off with a walk. Addison Barger cracks a single into right field.

Kirk and Varsho go down, but Clement extends his hitting streak with a base hit. Unfortunately, Bichette, still hampered by a knee injury, can’t score from second so the bases are loaded.

Then Giménez strikes out swinging to end the threat.

Bo Bichette leads off the bottom of the second with a walk.

Jays broadcaster Buck Martinez predicted ahead of the game that Ohtani might not be sharp and that appears to be the case. The superstar, pitching with a dirt stain on his left leg, appears to be struggling with his command.

We might hear those words a lot while Scherzer is in this game. Like other Blue Jays pitchers, he’s been burned by homers — 18 in 95 regular-season innings — and tends to induce fly balls even when he’s getting outs.

Just a warning for those Blue Jays fans who might be the type to gasp each time a ball goes into the air.

So far, however, so good for Scherzer.

Just like in Game 3, when Bo Bichette was picked off first, Springer assumed a walk there — and assumed incorrectly.

In fact, that whole first inning feels eerily familiar — down to Scherzer allowing an Ohtani leadoff hit but stranding him on base.

Perhaps we have another 18-inning marathon on our hands.

Guerrero Jr. Strikes out looking on a 3-2 count and Springer is thrown out at second, seemingly walking to the bag thinking the pitch had been called a ball.

Tough mistake early.

From boos at Ohtani to chants of “Vladdy,” this Rogers Centre is capital-L Loud.

To these ears, it seems multitudes noisier than it was last night.

In Game 3, the Dodgers two-way star doubled and homered off of Scherzer.

Today, he began the game by lacing a single to right-centre field.

But Scherzer retired the next three in order to shut down any threat.

A solid start for the 41-year-old veteran, who’s been in this exact spot before. Still, it’s not too early to question if that will be his only matchup against Ohtani.
