Schneider will try to piece together six final outs from Yesavage and Hoffman.
The latter, the Jays closer, has been inconsistent at times but dominant in these playoffs with 16 strikeouts in 11 innings and just one run allowed.
There were big cheers from the crowd when they saw Yesavage, their rookie rock star, jog back out to start the eighth.
An energy shift in the building after that crucial double-play.
Fans are high-fiving, screaming and dancing.
Six outs to go to make their team World Series champions.
Trey Yesavage walked Ohtani to begin the 7th inning. Is the kid off? Nah. Kirk made a mound visit to calm things down, and Will Smith flied out to centre.
And then more genius defence from Guerrero.
He grabs a ground ball, fires to second and retreats to the bag to get Freeman on the return throw. Textbook stuff from the Jays first baseman there.
Huge for Yesavage.
He may have romped through these playoffs with a team-record eight home runs, but the former Gold Glover is showing out with his mitt in Game 7.
It’s hard to overstate how impressive that double play was — he could have taken the easy out at first, but he made a strong throw to second base, Giménez fired it right back, and the Jays got out of the seventh inning.
Earlier, you’ll recall, Guerrero made a diving stop to his left to end another threat.
A true all-around ball player.
The Blue Jays rookie began the year in single-A, climbing every level before reaching the majors in September.
He’s now made more post-season appearances than regular-season ones — and he’s been dominant in doing so.
But now he’s being asked for the biggest outs of his career as he enters with a two-run lead in the seventh.
He couldn’t have even dreamed of this scenario just a few months ago.
Ernie Clement tied the MLB post-season hit record to start the inning with yet another base hit.
Gimenez showed bunt and got the count to 3-0. Perhaps distracted, Glasnow let Clement steal second base.
Gimenez then ripped a double to score Clement.
Springer struck out swinging.
Gimenez advanced to third on a long fly out to centre by Nathan Lukes.
But Vladdy grounded out to end the frame.
The scrappy Jays infielder just launched his second hit of the game to left field. In doing so, he tied an MLB record with his 29th hit of this post-season.
Then, he stole second, seemingly catching the Dodgers by surprise and advancing without a throw.
A pitch later, Giménez launched an RBI double to right-centre, restoring the Blue Jays’ two-run lead.
Earlier, Clement broke a team record by hitting safely in a 13th straight post-season game.
Could he win World Series MVP if the Jays hold on?
Clement, who had just stolen second, scores easily.
“That’s why you swing the bat!” screams a fan on the telecast.
It’s 4-2 for the Jays.
Nine outs to go, one-run lead. Who will Schneider call out of the bullpen?
He has said Trey Yesavage could be available. We haven’t seen Shane Bieber. Seranthony Dominguez is a coin-toss — he can be dominant, but he can also struggle badly with command.
Closer Jeff Hoffman is likely ticketed for the ninth.
And there’s at least one more Ohtani at-bat to get through.
These are the decisions that could win or lose a World Series.
Bassitt issued a leadoff walk to Mookie Betts and Max Muncy followed that with a base hit to put two on with nobody out.
Bassitt got Teoscar Hernández to ground one to the mound and threw out the runner at second.
Edman’s sacrifice fly scored Betts.
Kike Hernández slapped one through the right side of the infield to extend the inning.
But Bassitt, the starter turned reliever, got Miguel Rojas to softly ground out to end the inning.
