The government has ordered the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to probe the blast. With the investigation underway, authorities have closed the historic Red Fort to visitors for the next three days. Furthermore, DMRC has also closed the Lal Qila Metro station on the violet line for security reasons.Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to Bhutan, has stated that the perpetrators of the blast will not be spared. PM Modi's remarks echo a similar sentiment expressed by defence minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday.Car blast rocks DelhiEyewitnesses, shopkeepers, and those nearby the scene of the blast shared that the explosion was of high intensity, causing windows to shatter and buildings to tremble.As per Delhi Police, a slow-moving vehicle stopped at a red light near Red Fort minutes before the explosion. "At around 6.52 PM, a slow-moving vehicle stopped at the red light. An explosion happened in that vehicle, and due to the explosion, nearby vehicles were also damaged,” Delhi police commissioner Satish Golcha said.In his first remarks since the blast, union home minister Amit Shah stated that the blast occurred in an i20 car. "This evening, around 7 pm, a blast occurred in a Hyundai i20 car at the Subhash Marg traffic signal near the Red Fort in Delhi. The blast injured some pedestrians and damaged some vehicles. Preliminary reports indicate that some people have lost their lives," said Shah, adding that all angles related to the blast are being probed by teams from Delhi Police, NIA, NSG, and forensic services.Teams from the National Security Guard (NSG), the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the forensic department reached the site of the explosion to assess the situation and ascertain the cause of the blast. They said the footage shows the car, with three occupants, heading from the Daryaganj Market towards the Sunehri Masjid parking lot beside the Red Fort on Shantivan Marg around 4pm.The car bore a Haryana registration number and was last registered to a man in Gurugram, but had changed hands several times in recent weeks, another investigator said.As the investigation continues, the Red Fort has been closed for visitors for the next three days. Furthermore, DMRC has closed the Lal Quila metro station due to security reasons as well.Speaking to HT, police officials have stated that the suspected driver of the i20 car had links to a Kashmir-based doctor who was tied to the terror module busted in Faridabad on Monday.
