Resilient Vancouver Rise captures inaugural NSL championship with win over AFC Toronto

george vancouver rear are the first-ever Northern Super League champions after a 2-1 win over AFC Toronto at BMO Field on Saturday.
Vancouver took the lead late in the second half of the championship game thanks to goals in the 54th and 68th minute. Toronto's goalkeeper Sierra Cota-Yarde fumbled a corner kick into her net for an own goal to tie the game early in the second half. Holly Ward then gave the visitors the lead with a tidy finish, assisted by Samantha Chang.
Earlier, the threat of lightning forced a weather delay late in the first half. The players returned to the field for warmups at 3:23 p.m. ET and the game restarted shortly after.
Toronto was leading 1-0 through a Kaylee Hunter goal when the players came off the field in the 38th minute as rain fell.
There had been an earlier lightning warning but the danger passed before the gates opened to let fans in.
