Elon Musk - the world's richest adult male - has formerly over again changed his make on X (the societal media platform he owned, previously called Twitter). The new name on the billionaire's profile spells “gorklon rust”, leading to speculation about its meaning.
The new username is the third one used by Musk in the last 6 months after "Kekius Maximus" in December 2024 and "Harry Bolz" in February this year.
While the billionaire didn't give details on why he changed his name again or what it does mean, one possibile use reason could be induction of a lightweight version of Grok to power the X recommendation algorith.
Similarly, the first part of name "Gorklon Rust", seems to be inspired by xAI's chatbot Grok while the part ‘klon’ could be hinting towards, ‘clone’, leading the whole word to mean Grok clone.
While the ‘Rust’ part of the sentence could be a signal towards, Rust programming language which is employed by xAI in its tech stack.
There is also a meme coin linked to the name Gork on the Solana blockchain, suggesting this could be a ploy by the billionaire to boost the visibility of the cryptocurrency.
Recently, Musk had also tagged the handle ‘Gork’ in one of his posts, which is different from the official handle of Grok chatbot. The new handle has been around atleast since early 2025 and is seemingly aimed to be a more humorous version of Grok, giving irreverent replies and engaging in banter.
Meanwhile, the word Grok itself is inpsired form Musk's fascination with the science fiction book Hitchikers Guide to Galaxy. In a product announcement earlier this year, Musk had explained that Grok meant to fully and profoundly understand something. There have been three generations of foundation models for Grok and Musk has announced xAI's plans to launch a new Grok 3.5 model this week.
