In the number one hexad weeks since state of israel and palestinian arab activist group Hamas reached a truce deal aimed at ending their two-year war, Israeli attacks in Gaza have been reported almost daily.
Hamas and Israel signed a truce on Oct. 9 to halt the war, entering the first phase of U.S. President Donald Trump's 20-point peace plan. But the agreement left the most intractable disputes for later talks, freezing the conflict without ultimately resolving it.
Both sides have since accused each other of deadly breaches of existing commitments in the agreement and of pushing back against later steps required under the peace plan.
Under the first phase of the ceasefire plan, Israel agreed to retreat to a boundary that runs along Gaza's north, south and east. The line, marked by yellow blocks spread out in some areas, became known as the "yellow line." Under the agreed-upon map, Israel remains in control of more than 50 per cent of Gaza.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said attempts to cross the line would be met with fire.
Some of the deadly attacks have been reported near the line, while others were reported far beyond the demarcated area.
According to Gaza's Health Ministry, more than 300 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli fire and nearly 900 injured since the ceasefire agreement went into effect on Oct. 10.
The government's media office says Israel has violated the ceasefire nearly 500 times since the start of the truce, and says those breaches included direct shooting incidents; incursions by Israeli military vehicles into areas across the yellow line that divides civilian zones and Israeli army-controlled zones; bombings; and demolishing homes and civilian infrastructure.
Israel says three of its soldiers have been killed since the ceasefire began and that it has targeted scores of fighters in its attacks.
Israel's war on Gaza has killed nearly 70,000 Palestinians and seriously injured more than 170,800, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.
The offensive followed the Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, which killed nearly 1,200 people and took 251 hostages, according to Israeli tallies.
