CYclone Senyar unrecorded highlights: The amerind Meteorological section has predicted heavily to really heavy rains in Andaman & Nicobar Islands. It has also predicted heavy rains in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).The deep depression over the Strait of Malacca adjoining Northeast Indonesia in the Bay of Bengal intensified into Cyclone ‘Senyar’ on Wednesday morning, according to IMD.The name, ‘Senyar’, typically meaning a ‘lion’, was submitted by the United Arab Emirates.The system moved nearly westwards through Tuesday night with a speed of 10 kmph. It further moved west-southwestwards with a speed of 13 kmph over the past six hours and crossed the Indonesia coast with wind speeds of 70-80 kmph gusting to 90 kmph on Wednesday morning, according to the IMD.As of 0830 hours on Wednesday, Senyar lay centered “over coastal areas of northeast Indonesia near latitude 4.9°N and longitude 97.8°E, about 80 km east of Kuta Makmur (Indonesia), 280 km west of George Town (Malaysia), 580 km southeast of Nancowry (Nicobar Islands) and 730 km southeast of Car Nicobar (Nicobar Islands).”The cyclone is very likely to continue to move west-southwestwards and maintain the intensity of cyclonic storm till November 27. “Thereafter, it is very likely to recurve eastwards with gradual weakening during subsequent 24 hours,” the weather department said.Another weather systemMeanwhile, another low pressure area was detected over southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of south Sri Lanka and equatorial Indian Ocean, which became a well-marked low-pressure area on Wednesday, as per IMD.“The low-pressure area over southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of South Sri Lanka & Equatorial Indian Ocean lay as a well-marked low-pressure area over southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of Southeast Sri Lanka & Equatorial Indian Ocean at 0530 hours IST of today, the 26th November, 2025,” IMD said in its latest post on X.It further said that the system was likely to move nearly north-northwestwards and intensify into a depression over the next 24 hours.Heavy rain alert in southern states• The two weather systems have led to rainfall warnings for Andaman and Nicobar Islands, parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala. Meanwhile, in Odisha, IMD said that rain is unlikely over the next week despite the two weather systems in the Bay of Bengal.• The IMD has issued a heavy rain alert for several southern states between November 25 and December 1.• In its latest bulletin, the IMD forecast heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu between November 25 and 30, Kerala and Mahe on November 25 and 26, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, and Rayalaseema from November 29 to December 1, and Andaman and Nicobar Islands from November 26 to November 29.• It also predicted “very heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu during 28th-30th, Andaman & Nicobar Islands during 26th & 27th, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam and Rayalaseema on 30th November.”• Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are very likely over Tamil Nadu, Kerala & Mahe, Lakshadweep, coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam & Rayalaseema and over Andaman & Nicobar Islands, alongside heavy rains. Gusty wind speeds reaching up to 60 kmph are likely.
