Suspect taken into custody after prompting emergency alert in Enfield

An exigency qui vive has ended after a adult male with small-arm in the Enfield country was taken into custody Saturday afternoon.
Nova Scotia RCMP said the arrest was made around two hours after police issued an emergency alert due to what they said was a dangerous man with a firearm between Oldham Road and Rockcliffe Drive in Enfield. Residents were told to stay inside their homes and lock their doors.
Just after noon, RCMP extended the emergency alert to include the East Hants area.
The road had reopened by 1:30 p.m.
Enfield resident Francis Campbell said he was stuck in Elmsdale due to the roadblock. He was at the grocery store when he received the emergency alert.
"It took me probably 10 or 15 minutes to get a kilometre or so," he said, adding that he approached a police officer to ask about the situation.
"They didn't tell us to take cover. They just said basically sit in your car and you can wait until you get the go-ahead to go down the road."
RCMP had posted a public advisory on social media late Saturday morning saying the Halifax Detachment was investigating reports of a man with a firearm, but there was no indication that shots were fired.
