Parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju responded to the Opposition’s push for fixed timelines by saying the government is open to discussions on any issue but will not work under deadlines, stressing that consultations with party leaders would take place before the House takes up the matter.Rahul Gandhi's cryptic remarkCongress leader Rahul Gandhi took a veiled dig at the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) amid the ongoing ruckus over the SIR of the electoral rolls that prompted the adjournment of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. Referring to yesterday's incident where MP Renuka Chaudhary brought a dog to the Parliament, Gandhi said, "Dog is the main topic today, I believe. What did the poor dog do? Are dogs not allowed here? Pets are allowed inside. Maybe pets are not allowed here. I guess these are the things that India is discussing these days."The Congress MP's dog gesture kicked up a row after she took a jibe and said that the "real dogs are sitting in Parliament" and biting people every day.Priyanka Gandhi's dig at CentreAs both the houses were adjourned on Tuesday, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi said the government is not ready to speak up on any issue, despite the ongoing irregularities in voter lists and the worsening air pollution in Delhi.She said, "We have been demanding a discussion on so many issues, SIR, air pollution and others, since the last session. But they (govt) are not ready to discuss any issue. Is this how the Parliament should run? Parliament is the temple of democracy; all voices should be heard, of different voices and different thought processes, there should be discussion and then decisions should be made. But they (govt) are not ready to discuss any issue."On SIR, she said, "You are changing the voter lists every other day and cutting the names of lakhs of voters. There is ongoing vote chori (vote theft). "On air pollution, she said, "The air pollution in Delhi is getting worse, and the Prime Minister is saying the weather is pleasant. So, should we remain silent and not discuss anything?"Renuka Chaudhary vs Kiren RijijuCongress's Renuka Chaudhary launched a sharp attack on Rijiju as she called him "nalayak" (useless) after the latter criticised the Opposition for obstructing Parliamentary proceedings over SIR.Chaudhary accused the Centre of failing to run the House effectively.She said, "Arey tum nalayak ho toh hum kya karein, tumko chalana aata nahi hai to hum kya karein? Hum mudda bhi na uthayein? (You're useless. If they don't know how to run the House, then what can we do?) Do they want us to do yes, sir and no, sir? This will not work. We are MPs, and it is our duty to raise people's voices."Her remarks followed Rijiju's comment that while every concern holds significance, using them to block Parliament proceedings is “not right.”Here are the highlights from day two of winter session of the Parliament:1. The Rajya Sabha proceedings were earlier adjourned till 2pm after the Opposition MPs resorted to sloganeering and the Lok Sabha was adjourned till 12 noon as the Opposition MPs reportedly entered the well of the House and raised slogans against the government on day two of the winter session of the Parliament.2. Opposition leaders slam government over mandating the pre-installation of the Sanchar Saathi App in mobile phones, calling it a threat to national security. Chaudhary also filed an adjournment motion on the Sanchar Saathi App in the Rajya Sabha, while Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra called the Sanchar Saathi App a snooping App.3. The first day of winter session was also marked by chaos and adjournments as the Opposition staged a walkout from the Rajya Sabha over the demand for a debate on SIR. The government asserted that it is not averse to a discussion but a timeline cannot be set.4. On day one of the winter session of the Parliament, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman introduced two new bills that seek to repurpose levies on 'sin goods' such as tobacco, pan masala and related products. The bills were introduced ahead of the scheduled phaseout of the GST compensation cess levied on them.5. Other economic and financial bills on the government's agenda for this session of the Parliament includes the Atomic Energy Bill 2025, which seeks to allow private investment in the nuclear power-generation sector.6. Meanwhile, the Opposition MPs are set to raise several other matters, such as equality, income, the Red Fort blast, Delhi pollution and foreign policy. The winter session of Parliament will continue until December 19.
