PArliament overwinter Session unrecorded update: The Lok Sabha on midweek witnessed a heated up interchange between Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over the latter's "vote chori" claims. The home minister blamed the Congress leadership for party's poll losses, saying it was not the “EVM or the voters' list” that was to blame. Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi raised the issue of voter fraud in Haryana and said there were 19 fake voters in the state.Meanwhile, the opposition parties walked out of the house in protest against Amit Shah's speech. The house was later adjourned after Shah concluded his speech at 6:30 pm. The lower house will resume at 11 am on Thursday. The Rajya Sabha, earlier in the day, debated on ‘Vande Mataram’, while the Lok Sabha witnessed a discussion on the ongoing SIR exercise in the country. During the proceedings in Rajya Sabha, the Opposition hit out at the BJP leaders for distorting history, with Congress leader Jairam Ramesh saying that the whole aim of the debate on 150 years of Vande Mataram was to malign first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru. The House took up the issue for debate on Tuesday, with both the treasury and the opposition benches trading barbs.Congress MP Manish Tiwari opened the discussion in the lower house, which was also joined by the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi.Gandhi addressed the Lok Sabha on Tuesday during the debate on electoral reforms, alleging large-scale irregularities in voter rolls and a lack of transparency in the election process. He questioned the integrity of voter lists in states like Haryana and Bihar, saying there were “lakhs and lakhs of duplicate voters,” and reiterated his claim about a “Brazilian woman” appearing “22 times” on the rolls in Haryana.Rahul Gandhi also accused the Election Commission of evading accountability, remarking that “vote chori is an anti-national act". He also went to warn the poll body that the opposition would “change the law retroactively” and “come and find you.”Meanwhile, a massive ruckus broke out in the Rajya Sabha as Union minister JP Nadda targeted Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge for ‘hijacking the discussion’ by bringing up issues like foreign policy and the economy during a discussion on Vande Mataram. The upper house will continue the discussion on the 150th anniversary of the national song on Wednesday as well.
