OpenAI executive lists coding among 3 jobs AI could automate sooner than you think

ever so since the lift of unreal intelligence agency, thither has been a raging debate on if/when the new technology can take some of the jobs that humans currently do. There have been various projections and forecasts on the impact of new technology over the workforce but there is no one broad consensus on the topic yet.

However, we now have a perspective from, Olivier Godement, the head of product for business products, who named three areas where AI is at the cusp of automation.

Which jobs could be taken away by AI?

1) Coding:

While noting that automation hasn't reached a stage where it could ‘essentially atomate any white collar job’, he added that they are ‘starting to see like some quite strong automation use cases’ in a few specific fields.

Godement noted that coding is among the most obvious candidate for automation by AI while also noting that vibe coding has reached a stage where if he were to take away the AI coding tools from the engineers it would likely cause a riot.

"The automation is probably not yet at the level of automating completely the job of a software engineer, but I think we have a line of sight essentially to get there," he said

2) Customer Support:

The executive then added that another area where there is a ‘strong case’ for automation is sales and customer support. Godement highlighted his work with telecom giant T-Mobile, noting that AI models are starting to achieve "fairly good results in terms of quality at a meaningful scale."

"My sense is we'll probably be surprised in the next year or two on the amount of tasks that can be automated reliably." he added

The senior executive also noted two advantages that the AI could have over humans. The AI models have higher patience than humans and they have the capability to converse in multiple languages.

"The model is infinitely patient. So you know for people who need more time to have their answer, the model can take five minutes," he added

“There's a long tale of languages and if you have to staff like customer support agents for like every language, you're not going to make it” he further noted

3) Life Sciences and Pharma

Godement says his "bet is often on life sciences, pharma companies" being automated with AI, especially in terms of drug discovery. Pointing to his work with pharmaceutical companies like Amgen, Godement says there are two componenets to design and discover of new drugs: the research and experimentation and admin, which is a time consuming process.

“They (AI Models) are pretty good at aggregating, consolidating a sort of a like tons of structured unstructured data, spotting like diffs and you know uh different changes like you know uh in the document.” he said

“Once we figure out a way to properly version audit release the model with the right permission internally we're going to see a bunch more adoption in the life sciences and the outcome will probably be more medication like new drugs essentially for people which is pretty cool.” he further added
